MR. WILBUR R. GARRETT, age 81, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, December 2, 2022, at Dodge County Hospital.

 Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, December 5, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Paul Cowles, Pastor Todd Crosby, and Dr. Donnie Sutton officiating, with interment in Orphans Cemetery.

 Wilbur was born at his grandfather’s home in Oxford, FL on January 25, 1941, during the time his father was serving in the Pacific with the U.S. Navy. He spent his early years between Florida and Georgia, and later graduated from Dodge County High School in 1959. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego at the Naval Air Station. He married the love of his life, Kateleen “Kay” Barlow, on September 3, 1961. He later earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Georgia State University. In 1963 he moved to Atlanta and worked as an agent with the Internal Revenue Service and enjoyed a rewarding career that spanned over 32 years. After his retirement, he and Kay moved to Eastman in 1995, where they enjoyed many happy years living in the Gresston Community. He was ordained as a deacon for Rehoboth Baptist Church in Tucker, GA, a longtime member and deacon of Gresston Baptist Church, and was presently a member and deacon of Eastman First Baptist Church, where he also served as an alternating Sunday School teacher for the Chapel Sunday School Class. Wilbur enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews, and working in his yard, cutting grass, picking up and burning pinecones. He also enjoyed genealogy, college football, and was a member of the Dodge County Hospital Board and the OEMC Foundation Board. Wilbur was the son of the late Odie Wynne Garrett and Ronald W. Garrett and was preceded in death by a Sister and Brother-in-law, Dee and Vesta Noles, Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law, Madeline Barlow Dominy and Willis Dominy, Maternal Grandparents, Pearl Fordham Wynne and Willie Owen Wynne, and Paternal Grandparents, Rowena Dunlap Garrett and Samuel Randolph Garrett.

 He is survived by his loving and dedicated Wife of 61 years – Kateleen “Kay” Barlow Garrett of Eastman; Sister – Shirley Stiver (Fred Moore) of Cochran; Brother – Tim Garrett (Denise) of Gresston; Nieces and Nephews – Chris Dominy (Lisa) of Eastman, Brent Dominy (Callen) of Brookhaven, Natalie Bowling (Ronnie), Trent Garrett (Devan), both of Gresston, Wade Noles (Paula), Cary Noles, both of Guntersville, AL, Daryl Noles (Kelly) of Morris, AL, Stacy Jarrell (Eric) of Cochran, and Garrett Stiver of Eastman; Numerous Great-Nieces and Nephews and Several Great-Great-Nieces and Nephews.

 The family may be contacted at Garrett residence, 1141 Gresston Baptist Church Rd., Eastman, and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 5:00PM-7:00PM Sunday, December 4. In addition to flowers, the family request contributions to Cornerstone Christian Academy, 5107 Oak Street, Eastman, GA 31023.
