MRS. SHIRLEY FAYE AVERY CANNON, age 87, of Savannah, GA, and formerly of Eastman, died Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Harmony Care in Savannah.
MRS. SHIRLEY FAYE AVERY CANNON, age 87, of Savannah, GA, and formerly of Eastman, died Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Harmony Care in Savannah.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, June 28, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Daniel Cook officiating, with interment in Orphans Cemetery.
Mrs. Cannon was born in Rockledge, GA in Laurens County and was member of Cottondale Baptist Church in Eastman. She was a 1954 graduate of Robert E. Lee Institute in Thomaston. Faye married and moved to Eastman and raised her family there, while working for many years as a seamstress for Opelika Manufacturing in Hawkinsville and later as a paraprofessional with the GED Adult Educational Program at Heart of Georgia Technical College. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. She enjoyed serving in church, Bible study, reading, puzzles, and devoting time with her family. She was affectionately known as Grandma to her grandchildren and “Mimi” to her great grandchildren. Faye was the daughter of the late Enoch Albert Avery and Sheldon Ricks Avery and was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Burton Thomas Cannon and 4 siblings, James Avery, Marjorie Chapman, Colleen Peterman and Wayne Avery.
She is survived by 2 Daughters – Cristol Johnson (Frank) of Savannah and Melody Sanders (Chuck) of Warthen; 6 Grandchildren – Andy Sanders (Holly) of Evans, Lee Sanders of Charleston, SC, Mac Sanders of Warthen, Wil Sanders of Warthen, Shane Johnson (Britni) of Savannah and Caroline Spencer of Savannah; 7 Great Grandchildren Andrew Sanders, David Sanders, Luke Sanders, Sparrow Spencer, Ashton Spencer, Avery Pearl Johnson, Harper Gardiner and a future Great Grandson Bear Johnson (due September); Several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
The family will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 10:00AM – 11:00AM before services on Friday, June 28. In addition to flowers the family requests contributions to the Micheal J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, give.michaeljfox.org
