MR. VANCE SCOTT JONES, age 65, of Fitzgerald, GA, died Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Atrium Health Navicent in Macon, GA.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, December 10, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Mike Grenade officiating.
Scott was born on May 6, 1959, in Shreveport, LA and was raised in Eastman, GA. He was a graduate of Baker Academy in 1977, attended Middle Georgia College, and earned his Master Welder certification from South Georgia Technical College. Scott worked for his father’s business, Jones Equipment, throughout the 1970s and continued to work in the family business after it incorporated in the 1980s and became Grizzley Cleaning Systems. He left the company in the late 1990s and earned his CDL certification from Cummins Trucking School in Indianapolis, IN in 1996. He trucked for several trucking companies including P.A.M. Transport, Turner Trucking, Jones Trucking, and Butler Transport. He was a member of Eastman First Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling, trucking, listening to music, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, watching NASCAR racing, and spending time with family and friends. Scott was the son of the late Betty Deese Jones and Jack Franklin Jones and was preceded in death by his Brother, Jack David “P’nut” Jones, Maternal Grandparents, Alto and Linnie Deese, and Paternal Grandparents, Vance and Estelle Jones.
He is survived by his Sisters – Jefiner Jones of Augusta, GA and Deborah Jones of Macon, GA; Brother – Vann Jones of Fitzgerald, GA; Nieces and Nephews – Stephanie Joiner of Perry, GA, Franklin Jones of Eastman, GA, Ansley Bennett (Patrick) of Bluffton, SC, Courtney Ward of Grovetown, GA, Reed Bennett (Katie) of Augusta, GA, Chad Jones (Kristen) of Milan, GA, and Samantha Jones of Fitzgerald, GA; Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews – Hailey Meyer, Karson Jones, Ryder Ward, Addison Bennett, Olivia Jones, Banks Ward, Caroline Bennett, Willow Bennett, Addison Jones, Kollin Cribbs, Jewel Jones, and Luke Jones; Special Friends – Dan and Wanda English of Hawkinsville, GA; Numerous cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 10:30AM-11:00AM, Tuesday, December 10. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org/, or the donor’s favorite children’s charitable organization, in honor of Scott.
