MR. ROMULO M. “ROMY” YANONG, age 80, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, August 11, 2023, at Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta, GA.

​Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, August 15, at Woodlawn Cemetery, with Dr. Dwaine Dunn officiating.

​Romulo was born and raised in Cebu, Philippines and graduated from Pinamungahan High School in Cebu, Philippines. He later earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Cebu Institute of Technology. He worked as a lab technician for over twenty-five years at ACMDC Mining Corporation in Cebu, Philippines and later worked for Masbate Gold Mine for over three years in the 1990s before retiring. In 2007, he and his wife Rebecca moved to Eastman, GA to be with his daughter Rena and her husband Gary. He was a dedicated husband, and a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. Romy enjoyed gardening, cooking, taking care of his family, and keeping his home tidy. He enjoyed body building and weightlifting in his earlier years and liked to present himself well. He was a devout catholic and a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Eastman, GA. Romy was the son of the late Sofia M. Yanong and Sofio Yanong and was preceded in death by 3 Siblings, Sofio Yanong, Gumersinda Tecson, and Juanito Yanong.

​He is survived by his Wife of 60 years – Rebecca Gemperoa Yanong of Eastman; Daughter – Renalese “Rena” Y. Jones of Eastman; Sons – Risty Yanong (Judeline) and Rex Yanong (Hazel), both of Cebu, Philippines; 6 Grandchildren – Dee Yanong of Eastman, Sherlindy Lou Mondoñedo (Julius), Joshua John Yanong, Christine Macy Yanong, Sophia Pauline Yanong, and Eugene Perry Yanong, all of Philippines; Great-Grandson – Zachary Mondonedo of Philippines; 4 Sisters – Salome Koerper of Australia, Veneranda Pareja of Lakeland, FL, Violeta Solibio of New Zealand, and Ling-Ling Telebangco (Nardie) of Philippines; Brother – Vicente Yanong of Philippines; Sister-in-law – Lourdes Yanong of Philippines; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

 

​The family will receive friends in Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home from 9:30AM-10:30AM Tuesday, August 15.
