MRS. PEGGY WIDENER BURKE, age 74, of Cordele, GA, died Friday, August 16, 2024, at Atrium Health Navicent Peach in Byron, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, August 21, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Michael Widener and Paster Ricky Anderson officiating, with interment in Parkerson Baptist Church Cemetery.
Peggy was born April 8, 1950, to the late Louella Allen Widener and George Washington Widener. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, a 1969 graduate of Dodge County High School, and after high school, she married and began her family. She raised three daughters, was a homemaker, and worked several jobs over the years including as a seamstress for C & J Manufacturing, a waitress at Western Sizzlin in Eastman, GA, and as a sales clerk for B.C. Moore’s in Cordele, GA. Peggy was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and collecting light houses. She was preceded in death by her Grandson, Zachary Heath Wallace, and Sisters, Linda W. Smith, Ella Mae Melton, Kathleen W. Harrell, and Dolly W. Jones.
She is survived by her Daughters – Hope Morrow of Byron, GA, Nikki B. Mathews (Sean), and Tonya B. Moudy, both of Thomasville, GA; Grandchildren – Faith Burke, Ryan “Petey” Burke, A.J. Morrow, Kayla Moudy, Emily Neal, Lexus Neal-McConnell, Savanah Moudy, Denver Neal, Haley Wallace, Jacob Daniels, Amanda Jackson, Tony Mathews, and Alex Mathews; Great-Grandchildren – Kyrstin Morrow, Mackenzie Morrow, Freya McConnell, Brady Morrow, Sawyer Jackson, and Saylor Jackson; Brothers – Ray Widener of Hardy, AR, Raymond Widener of Sylvania, GA, Bennett Widener, Sr., Larry Widener (Brenda), Jerry Widener (Florence), Gary Widener (Jane), and Allen Widener (Burdette), all of Eastman, GA; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
The family may be contacted at the residence of Jerry and Florence Widener, 1797 Horne Rd., Eastman, GA, and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 10:00AM-11:00AM Wednesday, August 21.
