MRS. NORMA SUE ETHRIDGE BLACK, age 83, of Eastman, GA, died on Friday, April 18, 2025, at her residence.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, April 23, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Arnold Rye officiating.
Norma was born in Eastman, GA on October 15, 1941, to the late Janie Marie Grimsley Ethridge-Holcomb and Ansel “Jake” Ethridge, Sr. She was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Grace Baptist Church, and was a former waitress for over sixteen years. She worked at several restaurants over the years including the Perry Truck Stop for over four years in Perry, GA. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She enjoyed listening to country music, watching daytime soap operas, wrestling, and any Georgia sports on TV. She loved taking care of her pets, Rascal, Molly, Nova, Pepper, Brownie, and Blue. Norma enjoyed spending time with her husband and family, especially her grandchildren and was affectionately known as “Granny Black”. She was preceded in death by her Husband, John Henry Black, Stepdaughter, Kathy Black Parker, her Siblings, Kenneth Ethridge, J.D. Ethridge, Mary Ann Skipper, and Johnnie Mahan, and two Daughter-in-laws, Patricia Ann Sheffield Floyd and Cathy Lynn Granger Floyd.
She is survived by her Husband of 9 years – Steven Peacock of Eastman, GA; Daughter – Brenda Sue Sturgess of Albany, GA; Sons – Jimmy Ray Floyd and James Ricky Floyd, both of Eastman, GA; Grandchildren – Paul Sturgess, Jessica Sturgess (Tasha Pellerin), Christopher Floyd, Josh Floyd, Cody Floyd (Chyanne), Amber Floyd, Samantha Ussery (Samuel), Cassie Roosa, and Cori Taylor; Great-Grandchildren – Sawyer Ussery, Rayleigh Pellerin, and Isabella Pellerin; Sisters – Patricia Ann Davis and Sheryl Rolen, both of Warner Robins, GA; Brother – Ansel “Junior” Ethridge of Warner Robins, GA; Numerous nieces and nephews.
The family may be contacted at the residence of Steven Peacock, 5818 Dorough Street, Eastman, GA, and will receive friends in Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home from 10:30AM-11:00AM Wednesday, April 23.
