MRS. NOLA MERLE COBB STEPHENS, age 73, of Midway Community, GA, died Thursday, May 20, 2021 at the Medical Center Navicent Health in Macon, GA.

 Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, May 22, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Royce McClelland officiating, with interment in Orphans Cemetery.

 Mrs. Stephens was born in Hawkinsville, GA and raised in the Midway Community in Pulaski County, was a member of Midway Baptist Church and a dedicated church worker. She worked at her Aunt Stella’s country store beginning at age 14. She was a 1965 graduate of Hawkinsville High School, and a National Business School graduate in Eastman. She was a former assistant for Dr. Steele, Dr. Conner, Dodge County Hospital ER, and an operating room technician at Taylor Memorial Hospital for several years. She later retired as a customer service representative for Georgia Power in Hawkinsville, where she worked for 17 years. She was a dedicated wife and a loving mother and was affectionately known as “Mama Merle” by her daughter’s HHS Bandmates. She was the daughter of the late Viola Daniel Cobb and Willie Uriah Cobb and was preceded in death by 3 Siblings, Alvin Cobb, Watson Cobb, and Lois Watkins.

 She is survived by her Husband of 52 years – James Stephens of Hawkinsville; Daughter – Nola Stephens Geeter (James) of Hull, GA; 2 Sisters – Dora C. Watson of Hawkinsville and Kema Sheffield (Leslie Holland) of Eastman; 3 Brothers – Floyd Cobb of Hawkinsville, Leon Cobb (Jo) of Fort Valley, and Therell Cobb of Eastman; 2 Sisters-in-law – Chris Cobb of Poulan and Elizabeth Payne of Warner Robins; Brother-in-law – David Stephens (Pat) of Midway Community; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

 The family may be contacted at the residence of Celena and Todd McDermitt, 430 9th Avenue, Eastman and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 12:30PM-2:00PM Saturday, May 22. In addition to flowers, the family request contributions to Midway Baptist Church, 44 Lightered Knot Road, Eastman, GA 31023 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org
