MR. DEWITT CLEVELAND PHAGAN, age 100, of Eastman, GA, died Saturday, December 12, 2020 at his residence.

 Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, December 15 at Woodlawn Cemetery, with Rev. Andy Brownley and Rev. Michael Hammond officiating.

 Dewitt was a native of Eastman who helped on the family farm as a child picking cotton and plowing with a mule. He was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, and a retired electronics division employee of Robins AFB. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a Sergeant and a military police platoon leader who fought at Normandy Beach on D-Day. He worked as a textile worker for over 21 years and as a self-employed automobile mechanic for over 15 years. Dewitt enjoyed playing guitar and bass, enjoyed playing in several bands through the years, and was in a quartet for many years. He was son of the late Sarah Annie Hooks Phagan Payne and Ray Watson Phagan, widower of Willie Pearl Scarborough Phagan and Ellen Walker Burch Phagan, and was preceded in death by his Daughter, Sandra P. Jackson, Son, Wade Leroy Phagan, 3 Sisters, Annie Ray Woodrum, Azalee Phagan, and Mary Ellen Phagan, and 3 Brothers, Franklin Payne, Edward Payne, and Ameryal Payne.

 He is survived by his 4 Grandchildren – Stephen W. Phagan (Nicole) of Cochran, Michele Poole of Perry, Leslie P. Neal (Jamie), and Jeffrey Poole both of McRae; Great-Grandchildren – Sydney McRee, Zachery Poole, Donnie Jeffrey Poole, II, Lawson Neal, Marli Neal, Keaton Neal, Analese Poole, Skyler Phagan, Peri Phagan, Dailyn Phagan, Wade Phagan, Avery Miller, and Gabe Miller; Great-Great-Granddaughter – Shelby Phagan; Step-Daughter – Rebecca Moore (Ollie B.) of Alamo; Step-Son – Joe Burch (Sandra) of Alamo; Step-Son-in-law – Tom Pezold of Eastman; Several Step-Grandchildren and Step-Great-Grandchildren; Sister – Pat Stephens (David) of Eastman; Brother – George W. Payne (Sue) of Macon; Sisters-in-law – Elizabeth Payne, Mary Payne, Loraine Jones, Jo Walker, and Ouida Walker; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

 Mr. Phagan will lie in state from 11:00AM – 4:00PM Monday, December 14 in Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home. The family may be contacted at the residence of Leslie and Jamie Neal, 540 Race Track Rd., McRae, GA 31055. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, % Heather Browning, 5054 US Hwy. 441, Dublin, GA 31021.
