MR. MICHAEL CASWELL “MIKE” JOHNSON, age 64, died Friday, March 28, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Tuesday, April 1, at Plainfield Baptist Church, with Rev. Tim Tanner and Rev. Chuck Wimberly, Jr. officiating, with interment in Plainfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mike was born in Dublin, GA on April 27, 1960, and was a lifelong resident of the Plainfield Community of Dodge County, also known as “God’s Country”. He was a member and deacon of Plainfield Baptist Church, where he attended faithfully for his entire life. He also served as song leader, was a choir member, and served on numerous committees over the years. He was dedicated to his church and loved his Lord and his church family.
From the time Mike was 10 until he turned 18, he worked with the family business, Tri-County Peanut Company. He was a 1978 graduate of Dodge County High School and earned his degree in Machine Technology from Heart of Georgia Technical School. He married the love of his life, Kathy, on October 29, 1978, in Plainfield Baptist Church and they later welcomed a Son, Michael, in 1982. In 1987 he went to work through a co-op program with Robins AFB. During his time at Robins AFB, he worked as a welder, machinist, steel fabricator, and later became a supervisor in 2010. He enjoyed a productive and wonderful 33-year career at Robins AFB and retired in 2017.
He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, who was affectionately called “Pops” and “PeePaw” by his family. Mike enjoyed farming, taking care of his family land, hunting, fishing, building cars and hotrods, and collecting items that interested him, such as antique car parts, farm equipment, and various other items. He was a talented car builder and car enthusiast for many years. He raced stock cars for several years at local dirt tracks and loved to attend car swap meets and car shows. Mike served as a member and as a former fire chief for Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department since it was started in 1986. Mike loved his family dearly and loved spending time on the family farm. He loved going on fishing trips to West Point, Sinclair, and Oconee. He was a true family man and learned, “it wasn’t what you do on this earth for self-enjoyment. Hobbies and work don’t matter. It is of the most importance to have a relationship with Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior of the world”.
