MATTHEW STEVEN “MATT” JOHNSON, age 39, of Eastman, GA, passed away on Sunday morning, November 15, 2020 at home with his loving wife.
MATTHEW STEVEN “MATT” JOHNSON, age 39, of Eastman, GA, passed away on Sunday morning, November 15, 2020 at home with his loving wife.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, November 21, at Cottondale Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Myron Parkerson officiating.
Matt was born in Eastman on May 8, 1981. He was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a 1999 graduate of Dodge County High School where he excelled at football, and received a scholarship to play football at Middle Georgia College. He worked as a truck driver for many years for Johnson Recycling and for Kyle Barron Mobile Home Services, Inc. Matt was a fun loving man who had a heart of gold and a barrel full of compassion. He was one who worked hard, enjoyed helping others, and played hard. He was a dedicated and loving husband who believed in the motto “A Happy Wife, A Happy Life”. He was an excellent cook and no one could touch his baked beans recipe. Matt had a deep love for his family and an amazing smile, “Oh how I loved his smile”. He was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandfather, Lamar Johnson, Maternal Grandmother, Clementene Boutwell Devine, and an Uncle, Merle Johnson.
He is survived by his Wife of 13 years – Sharon McDuffie Johnson of Eastman; Father – Greg Johnson (Lisa) of Eastman; Mother – Debbie Johnson of Eastman; Sister – Amanda Johnson of Eastman; Nieces and Nephews – Kaeda Johnson, Kyah Johnson, Steven Barrett, and Sean Barrett; Paternal Grandmother – Louise Howell Johnson of Eastman; Maternal Grandfather – Sonny Boutwell of Eastman; Mother-in-law – Lucille McDuffie of Eastman; 2 Sisters-in-law – Rozell Wimberly (Jimmy) and Tina McDuffie; Brother-in-law – Willie McDuffie; Aunts and Uncles – Donna Gay, Denise Pittman, Diane Harrell (Larry), Deborah Johnson, and Cecil Johnson (Jane); Several Great-Aunts and Great-Uncles; Numerous Cousins and Friends.
The family may be contacted at the residence of Greg and Lisa Johnson, 2961 Hawkinsville Hwy., Eastman. Matt will lie-in-state from 11:00AM-4:00PM Friday, November 20, at Southerland Funeral Chapel.
