Miss Margaret Sue (Peggy) Burch, age 70, died Friday, January 14, 2022, at Atrium Health Navicent the Medical Center in Macon, GA.

Peggy was born in Eastman, GA, on August 5, 1951. She graduated in 1969 from Dodge County High School and obtained a bachelor’s degree in biology from Agnes Scott College, a Masters’ Degree in Microbiology from the University of Georgia and worked on her Doctorate in Microbiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; a Masters’ Degree in Education from Georgian Southern University, and worked on a degree in Music, specifically piano and organ, at Mercer University.

She taught high school science at Baker Academy, in Hawkinsville, GA for 1-1/2 years, and at Bulloch County High School for 2 years. She then worked in the Financial Aid Office at Middle Georgia College for nearly 15 years. She was bookkeeper for High Energy Systems of Eastman, GA, for over 15 years.

Miss Burch was organist for the First Baptist Church of Eastman, GA, for over 20 years, and performed with the Middle Georgia Community Chorale of Middle Georgia College. She enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader and loved music and the arts. She was a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Colonists.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Reuben F. Burch, III, and Sue Hawkins Burch; her paternal grandparents: Mr. R. F. Burch, Jr., and Belle Moore Burch; and her maternal grandparents: Mr. Michael Benjamin Hawkins and Maud Montague Hawkins of Panama City, FL; along with four aunts and three uncles.

She is survived by her brothers, Reuben F. Burch IV (Regina Gray) of Alexander City, AL, and Edward H. Burch (Angie Boyd) of Eastman, GA, along with nieces and nephews: Reuben F. Burch, V, (Emily) of Starkville, MS; Emmaline Burch of Birmingham, AL; Jonathan Sheffield of Kennesaw, GA; and Isabelle Burch, of Eastman, GA. Numerous cousins and close friends also survive.

Due to the current COVID situation, the family has decided to hold a memorial service at a later time. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Organ Repair Fund at First Baptist Church of Eastman, GA, or the Arts Guild of Dodge County.
