MRS. ETHEL MAE POWELL BLANKENSHIP, age 90, of Perry, GA, died Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Summerhill Senior Living in Perry, GA.

 Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Friday, January 14, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Thomas Carruth officiating, with interment in Orphans Cemetery.

 Mae was born in Dodge County on November 29, 1931, to Adger Thomas Powell and Cora Inez Wright Powell. She graduated in 1949 from Dodge County High School, and later attended Middle Georgia College. She married Maxwell Blankenship on Christmas day in 1952. They resided in Warner Robins for 55 years before moving to Perry in 2007. Mae was a homemaker. She also taught Children’s Church and Sunday School while attending Evergreen Baptist Church. She welcomed children to her backyard for Good News Club and loved sharing God’s word with youngsters. Mae also loved gardening and embroidery; and enjoyed giving her completed works to friends and family. She loved going to the Macon Mall often where she chatted with friends. She remembered everyone’s birthdays and anniversaries and always sent a card. She was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, and friend. She was quick witted and very well read on most subjects. Mae was the daughter of the late Cora Inez Wright Powell and Adger Thomas Powell and was preceded in death by her Husband of 65 years, Maxwell Blankenship and 2 Sisters, Hettie Ruth Douglas and Adel Fordham.

 She is survived by her 2 Sons – Mickey Blankenship (Debra) of Lizella and Mark Blankenship (Todd) of Perry; Several Nieces and Nephews.

 The family will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 12:00PM-1:00PM Friday, January 14. In addition to flowers, the family request contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alzfdn.org, or Perry United Methodist Church, 1002 Carroll Street, Perry, GA 31069. The family wishes to thank the staff of Summer Hill Senior Living in Perry. Mae was a resident there for 12 years, and everyone there became her family. We, the family, are grateful for the loving care she was shown for many years.
