Obituary for Louise Burch Evans

MRS. ALTA LOUISE BURCH EVANS, age 94, of Eastman, GA, died Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Dodge County Hospital.

 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, September 25, in Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Chaplain Doug Stevens officiating.

 Louise was born on November 4, 1931, in Eastman, GA. She was daughter of the late Melcener Howard Burch and William Matthew Burch. She was a 1948 graduate of Old Dodge High. She worked for many years in retail sales for the Five and Dime Store, Walker Shoe Store, and The Apple Crate. She enjoyed reading, cooking, fishing, crocheting, and tending to her flowers.

 Louise married Herbert Evans in 1949 and was the mother of three children. She was a beloved grandmother and affectionately known as “Granny” to four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was the youngest sibling of eight, but she lived to be the oldest of them all. She was preceded in death by her parents, Math and Melcener Burch, her husband of 49 years, Herbert Evans, her son, Mike Evans, and all 7 siblings, Essie Mae Sheffield, William Burch, Clifford Burch, Lela Burnham, Elvie Rogers, Audrey Sheffield, and Clarence Burch.

 She is survived by her Daughter – Gail Holmes of Eastman; Son – Randy Evans (Sue) of Cumming, GA; Daughter-in-law – Bonnie Evans of Eastman; 4 Grandchildren – Kimberly Evans, April Holmes Sheffield (Mark), Jason Evans (Nicole), and Will Evans; Great- Grandchildren – Coleson Evans, Isabelle Evans, and Kylie Sheffield; Special Friends Penny McLeod and Angela Lewis; Numerous Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.

 The family may be contacted at the Evans residence, 515 12th Avenue, Eastman, and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 1:00PM-2:00PM Friday, September 25. Flowers will be accepted or contributions in Mrs. Louise’s memory to Zebulon Baptist Church, P.O. Box 5062, Eastman, GA 31023.
