MR. NEWTON LAMAR SANDERS, age 80, of Eastman, GA, died, Saturday, August 24, 2019 at his residence.

 Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, August 26, 2019 at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Mr. Douglas Holder and Mr. Chris Rogers officiating, with interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

 Mr. Sanders was born in Hawkinsville, GA and was a member of Solid Rock Church of God. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, proudly serving our country in the late 1950s. Mr. Sanders was a retired police officer, serving 17 years at the Alma, Lumber City, and Eastman Police Departments. He was a dedicated family man who enjoyed building things and loved building projects, fishing and spending time outdoors. Lamar was the son of the late Nellie Mae Mullis Sanders and Elmo Wallace Sanders and was preceded in death by a grandson, Officer Tim Smith, great granddaughter, Layden Smith and 6 siblings, Bob Sanders, Lola Mae Coody, Sue Bentley, Lucille Haynes, Melba Bowman and Louise Ricks.

 Survivors: Wife of 28 years – Rita Thomas Sanders of Eastman; 3 Daughters – LaRita Smith Holder (Douglas) of Eastman, Ginny Smith Bentley (Paul) of Chester, and Bridget Smith Barlow (Tony) of Danville; 1 Son – Lewis “Ricky” Smith of Eastman; 1 Sister – Faye Bentley (Billy) of Hawkinsville; 10 Grandchildren; 19 Great Grandchildren; 2 Brothers-in-law – Bernard Thomas (Audrey) of Douglas and Harmon Ricks of Hawkinsville; Several Nieces and Nephews.

 The family may be contacted at the Sanders residence, 1126 Ben Giddens Road, Eastman and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 5:00PM-7:00PM Sunday, August 25, 2019. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
