MR. JOHNNY PLENTY MATHEWS, age 74, of McRae, GA, died Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at McRae Manor Nursing Home.

Johnny was born on November 21, 1950, in Atlanta, GA, and lived there through his formative years. He attended school in Atlanta and worked as a delivery truck driver before moving to Eastman in 1973 and lived there until moving to McRae in 2018. He loved country music and enjoyed spending time with his canine companion Rusty. He was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons football. Johnny enjoyed watching westerns and was a strong cowboy and dressed the part. He was affectionately known as “Cowboy” to his friends. He was the son of the late Evie Mae Smith Mullis and John Plenty Mathews and was preceded in death by a Brother, James Allen Mathews.
He is survived by his Son – John Paul Mathews of Monticello, GA; Grandchildren – Brianna Mathews of Covington, GA; Keylee Mathews and Brooke Mathews of Loganville, GA; Great-Grandchildren – Colton Bridges, Caiden Bridges, Cameron Bridges of Covington, GA, and Alayiah Bridges; Sisters – Dottie Loyd of Fayetteville, GA, Marilyn Black and Brenda Graham of Eastman; Nieces and Nephews – Tammy McKeehan, Amy Loyd, Kevin Loyd, Tracy Howard (Christopher), Sheila Fish (Jeffery), Shellie Toler (Josh), Jason Warren (Andrea), Selena Smith (Nathan), and Trey Mathews (Sierra); Several Great Nieces and Nephews, and Special Family Friend – John Thomaston.
