MR. JOEY HARLOW MULLIS, age 72, of Chester, GA, died Monday, October 28, 2024, at his residence after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
MR. JOEY HARLOW MULLIS, age 72, of Chester, GA, died Monday, October 28, 2024, at his residence after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, October 31, at Macedonia Baptist Church, with Rev. Brad Dowdy officiating, with interment in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
Joey was born in Eastman, GA on January 13, 1952. He was a lifelong resident of Chester, GA, attended Dodge County High School, and after high school, he worked several jobs before working with Opelika Manufacturing in Hawkinsville, GA. He later worked for Middle Georgia Pools before becoming a master mechanic and heavy equipment operator for Ray Smith Paving for over 20 years. Joey briefly worked for Sellars Construction as a heavy equipment operator for a few years before retiring in 2015. He was a member of Chester Lions Club and the Cary Hunting Club for many years, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and being outdoors. He was a true family man who loved his family dearly and was affectionately known as “Papa Joey” to his grandchildren. He was blessed to have been married for over 54 years to the love of his life, Dell, whom he loved beyond measure and was loved just as much by her. Along with his love for his family, Joey loved the Lord and loved spending time in worship with his church family at Macedonia Baptist Church where he was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. Joey was the son of the late Lucille Paul Mullis and Joseph Mullis.
He is survived by his Loving Wife – Nora Dell Woodard Mullis of Chester, GA; Daughters – Deborah Giddens and Christina Rogers (Ike), both of Chester, GA; Grandchildren – Alaura Giddens, Chase Rogers, and Cailee Rogers; Great-Grandsons – William Allen and Cameron Allen; Sister – Linda M. NeSmith (Curtis) of Dexter, GA; Brothers – Donald Mullis (Vickie) of Chester, GA and Wendell Mullis (Linda) of Cochran, GA; Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law – Earl Woodard, Lee Woodard, Sandra Sheffield (Ronnie), all of Eastman, GA, Alvis Woodard (Cindy), Terry Woodard, and Teresa Mullis, all of Cochran, GA; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
The family may be contacted at the Mullis residence, 664 Ebb Peacock Rd., Chester, GA, and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 6:00PM-8:00PM Wednesday, October 30. In addition to flowers, the family request contributions to Macedonia Baptist Church, 1100 Macedonia Church Rd., Cochran, GA 31014, or the Chester Lions Club, % Ann Evans, 293 Sam Butler Rd., Cochran, GA 31014.
