MR. JOSEPH RAYMOND “JOE” NEWLAN, JR., age 82, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Heart of Georgia Nursing Home.
MR. JOSEPH RAYMOND “JOE” NEWLAN, JR., age 82, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Heart of Georgia Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, October 14, at Bowers Cemetery, with Mr. Bobby Ryals officiating and military honors.
Joe was born and raised in Palatka, FL, a member of Rock Branch Baptist Church, and a combat veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. After serving his country, he worked for many years in Tampa, FL as a longshoreman and crane operator. In 2002, he moved with his wife to Eastman, GA and worked for several years as a bus driver and in the bus shop for the Dodge County Board of Education. Joe was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed piddling, camping, working, and staying busy. He was very active, had a huge heart, and was always faithful in giving of his time and possessions. He was the son of the late Ilene Nettie Moody Newlan and Joseph Raymond Newlan, Sr and was preceded in death by a 2 Sisters, Betty Knowles and Sara Dion, and 2 Brothers, Robert Gerald Newlan and Herbert Bennett.
He is survived by his Wife – Joanne Gibson Newlan of Eastman; 2 Daughters – Tammy Wilmath (Danny) of Cape Coral, FL and Annette Belflower (Randy) of Eastman; Son – Billy Cooper (Tracy) of Eastman; 5 Grandchildren – Ashley Belfower Thompson (Jared), Bradley Belflower, Trae Clack, Nikki Clack, and Travis Wilmath; 2 Great-Grandchildren – Kylee Graham and Owen Floyd; 2 Sisters – Susie O’Neal of Charlotte, NC and Janice Litener of Lithia Springs, FL; 2 Brothers – Charles R. Newlan (Corrina) of Pensacola, FL and Kenny Newlan (Kathy) of Tampa, FL; Sister-in-law – Gerry Bennett of Tampa, FL; Family Friend – Betty Holland (Terry) of Cadwell; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
The family may be contacted at the Newlan residence, 5024 Forest Lane Road, Eastman, and will receive friends in Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home from 9:30AM-10:30AM Friday, October 14.
