Obituary for James Irvin Sr.

MR. JAMES ERIC IRVIN, SR., age 75, of Moreland, GA, died Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Nursecare of Buckhead in Atlanta, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Friday, August 20, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Mr. Quint Bush and Mr. David Moore officiating, with interment in Parkerson Baptist Church Cemetery.

James Irvin was born in McRae, GA, attended Laurens County High School, and finished his education in the U.S. Army. He trained with the U.S. Navy to become an air traffic controller in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War Era. After leaving the military, he worked a variety of jobs, including selling insurance and owning a paint and body shop. Driving a truck over the road became his profession and he was known as “Dutchmaster” to many. He drove for Bill Myles for most of his career and retired from Trucks, Inc. out of Jackson, GA, in 2016. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed reading, dabbling in a few hobbies, and driving fast vehicles, but his greatest love was spending time with family and friends and being the jokester and the instigator in the crowd. He was the son of the late George Dewey Irvin and Stella Mae Harbin Irvin and was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Ann Irvin, and 4 siblings, George Irvin, Sr., Betty Shaw, Lon Irvin, and Ellen Moore.

He is survived by his son, James Eric Irvin, Jr. (Deana) of Lone Oak, GA; daughter, Paula Lowry (Ernest) of Luthersville, GA; 5 grandchildren, Jimmy Irvin (Lisa) of Moreland, GA, Heath Lowry (Maya) of Lansing, Michigan, Ami McCarry (Ryan) of Lacey, Washington, Ezra Lowry of AcWorth, GA, and Seth Lowry of Luthersville, GA; 2 great-grandchildren, Jay Irvin and Mason Irvin; twin sister, Joyce Bush; 3 sisters-in-law, Janice Irvin, Geraldine Bryant, and Debbie Bryant; several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 11:30AM-1:00PM Friday, August 20.
