MR. JOEL DAVID “JD” MULLIS, SR, age 91, of Jackson, GA, formerly of Eastman, GA, died Sunday, September 4, 2022.

 A celebration of life service will be held at 2 PM Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Gerald Conley and Rev. Myron Parkerson officiating.

 Mr. Mullis lived most of his life as a resident of Dodge County. He was a steadfast member of Eastside Baptist Church where he was a devoted deacon, faithful Sunday School teacher and choir member. From 1952 until his retirement in 1985, he was a project engineer with the State of Georgia Department of Transportation. Throughout his life, JD enjoyed playing baseball, gardening, fishing, watching the Atlanta Braves, but participating in church activities was his heart. One of his many talents was woodworking. As a master carpenter, many people and churches were blessed through this gift.

Mr. Mullis was the son of the late William Henry Mullis and Odie Parkerson Mullis. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, June Kight Mullis; and 10 siblings: Mildred Stuckey, Fulton Mullis, Felder Mullis, F.T. Mullis, Parker Nue Mullis, Donald Mullis, James Mullis, Gilbert Mullis, Bryce Mullis and Doyce Mullis, Sr.

 He is survived by his children: William Edward “Will Ed” Mullis (Susan) of Jackson, GA; Celeste Mullis Hurst (Monty) of Douglasville, GA; and Joel David Mullis, Jr of Eastman, GA; 7 grandchildren: Jason Mullis (Amy), Chris Mullis, Jared Mullis (Diana), Josh Mullis (Megan), Eli Hurst, Justin Mullis and Misty Raiff (Andrew Fuller); 13 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Nita Horne Mullis, Doretha Rowell Mullis, and Frances Saunders Mullis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 The family will receive friends at Southerland Funeral Chapel from 1 PM to 2 PM Thursday, September 8, with memorial service to follow.
