MRS. BETTY IRENE HIGINGBOTHAM CROWE, age 89, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Advanced Health and Rehab of Twiggs County, in Jeffersonville, GA.
MRS. BETTY IRENE HIGINGBOTHAM CROWE, age 89, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Advanced Health and Rehab of Twiggs County, in Jeffersonville, GA.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, March 4, at Southerland Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Irene was a born and raised in Eastman, GA and was a member of Eastman First Baptist Church. She graduated in the late 1940s from Eastman High School before moving to Atlanta to attend two years of business school. She went to work at the State Capitol in the 1950s as an assistant to the Comptroller General, Zach Cravey. During her time in Atlanta Irene met her future husband and later moved to Roswell to begin her family. She raised two sons, the first born in 1958 and the later in 1961. She moved with her family to Athens in 1966 and began a career as an assistant in the Classics department at the University of Georgia where she worked for 17 years before retiring. In 1983 she moved back to Eastman to take care of her mother. Her hobbies included socializing with her many friends and she enjoyed working in her yard. She was a loving grandmother to her three granddaughters. She was the daughter of the late Belle Batts Higingbotham and James David Higingbotham and was preceded in death by a Son, William Lionel “Billy” Crowe, Jr. and 2 Brothers, James E. Higingbotham and David Higingbotham, Jr.
She is survived by her Son – James David Crowe (Gay) of Athens; 3 Grandchildren – Kara Crowe Woodall (Ben), Ceci Crowe, and Jamee Crowe, all of Atlanta; Former Husband - William Lionel “Bill” Crowe, Sr. of Athens; Several Nieces and Nephews.
The family will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel following the memorial service.
