MR. HOLLIS M. SMITH, age 89, of Eastman, GA, died Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Augusta University Medical Center.

 Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, October 1, at Bay Springs Freewill Baptist Church, with Rev. Emory Howell officiating, with interment in Bay Springs Cemetery in Plainfield.

 Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a 1947 graduate of Dodge County High School, and an active member and deacon of Bay Springs Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a former clerk, Sunday school teacher, and song leader. His church was his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired electronics inspector for Robins AFB for over 36 years. Hollis enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, his cows, and he loved his family, his grandchildren, and Atlanta Braves baseball and since his retirement, he enjoyed his time with the McDonald’s coffee crew. He was son of the late Nancy Jewel Butler Smith and Isaac Monroe Smith and was preceded in death by a Sister, Marjorie Ross Van Pelt.

 Survivors: Wife of 70 years – Josephine “Jo” Parkerson Smith of Eastman; Daughter – Burdette S. Wheeler (Jimmy) of Waverly; Son – Dr. Wayne Smith of Eastman; 5 Grandchildren – Holly White (Kevin), Kelli Beverly (Corey), Brent Wheeler (Katie), Jonathan Smith (Megan), and Jennifer S. Wells (Chayne); 12 Great-Grandchildren – Addie White, Cole White, Jolie White, Lilli Beverly, Stanton Beverly, Liam Beverly, Aurie Wheeler, Will Wheeler, Grayson Smith, Annaleigh Smith, Ansley Wells, and Chandler Wells; Sister – Vicene S. Rearden of Warner Robins; 3 Brothers – Edison Smith (Wynell) of Eastman, Billy Joe Smith of Griffin, and Gerald Smith (Betty Anne) of Eastman; Numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.

 The family may be contacted at the Smith residence, 557 Dublin Hwy., Eastman, and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 6:00PM-8:00PM Monday, September 30.
