MR. JOE HOLLIS GOODE, age 83, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, December 2, 2019 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, December 5, in Southerland Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tim Tanner and Dr. Jerry Peele officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 PM in Tifton at Tift Memorial Gardens with Rev. Michael Marchant officiating.

Mr. Goode had a strong faith in God. He was a dedicated deacon at New River Baptist Church for most of his life. After moving to Eastman, he became an active member of Plainfield Baptist Church. Hollis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He treasured his family as well as his church family.

Hollis was born and raised on a farm in Tift County and farming remained an important part of his life. He enjoyed playing softball until his early 60s. He coached his girls’ teams and the ladies’ church softball team. Also, he was a competitive golfer with his brothers and friends. Georgia football and Braves baseball were his favorite things to watch. Hollis provided for his family working two jobs most of his life. He worked as a mail carrier for 33 years at the Tifton Post Office while farming or making custom cabinets. He was a courier after retirement.  

Hollis is preceded in death by his parents, Webster Mitchell Goode and Emma Ruby Crumpton Goode, his twin brother, Wallace Goode, a sister, Diane Goode Berry, and two sisters-in-law, Bo Goode and Barbara Goode.

 Survivors: His Wife – Marjorie Goode of Eastman; 2 Daughters – Marcia Hill and Cheryl Giddens (Randy), both of Eastman; Sister – Bonnie Johnston (Benny) of Tifton; Brother – Gene Goode of Tifton; 5 Grandchildren – Matthew Hill of Charlotte, NC, Will Giddens (Shannon) of Statesboro, Nathaniel Hill of White Lake, MI, Jenna Bowie (Andrew) of Cumming, and Holly Martin (Adam) of Eastman; 3 Great Grandchildren – Mazey Giddens, Rozzey Giddens, and Charley Kate Martin; Several Nieces and Nephews.

 The family may be contacted at the residence of Randy and Cheryl Giddens, 476 Glyen Hickman Road, Eastman, and will receive in Southerland Funeral Chapel, from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM, Wednesday, December 4. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Plainfield Baptist Church Building Fund, 271 Plainfield Road, Eastman, GA 31023.
