Obituary for Hazel Roberson

On the 15th of January 2020, our beloved Nana, Mama, and Wife, Hazel Brown Roberson, embarked on the grandest adventure of all her days. The Holy Spirit carried her away to the loving arms of her Father, Mother, Brothers, Sisters, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, friends, and all the congregates of Heaven. The greatest embrace was provided by her Savior, Jesus Christ.

All of those who loved Hazel are invited to a Graveside Celebration at 11:00AM Saturday, January 18, at Sand Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Mark Sweat and Rev. Terry Pope officiating. A lunch and visitation will be held in the Social Hall following the funeral service.

This world was blessed with her birth on the 4th of May 1948 to Jess and Annie Williams Brown of Milan, GA. A joyous childhood was shared with John K Brown (Heaven), JI Brown (Heaven), Rachel Bowen (Heaven), Sue Pitts (Earth), Larry Brown (Heaven), and Janet Hickman (Earth). To hear the tales of their adventures was akin to sharing the experiences as if you had been there. The love and devotion among her parents and siblings was something every child should experience. As the siblings married, the nieces and nephews came along in a multitude to enrich the family. Surviving Hazel is her groom John Will Roberson; children, Jill Alexander, Destrey Roberson, David Alexander (son-in-law), Jennifer Roberson (daughter-in-law), sisters, Sue Pitts, Janet Hickman; brother-in-law, Horace Pitts, Sister-in-laws, Patsy Brown, Johnnie Kate Brown and Willie Brown, grandchildren, Gaven Alexander, Gage Alexander, Annesty Alexander, Caleb Roberson, Ava Roberson, numerous nieces, and nephews.

After the days of her high school graduation from Dodge County High, Class of 1966, a handsome, silver tongue known to all as John Will Roberson courted Hazel. He convinced her to walk alongside him in matrimony for a devoted 53 years. John brought along his sister, Edith Sweat (Heaven) who was espoused to Delmas Sweat (Heaven) and together they added a niece and a nephew. A miracle of life would be delivered on the 2nd of July 1971, John Destrey Roberson. Despite the naysaying of the medical community, the Lord again blessed the family with the most wonderful daughter/sister, Jill Anne Roberson Alexander on the 27th of June 1975. Time passed, then the family expanded with the addition of Jill’s husband, Morris David Alexander (25 years). The Alexander family was fruitful and grew to include, Gaven, Gage, and Annesty Alexander of Dawsonville, GA. At long last, Destrey found the love of his life, Jennifer Dawn Roberson and they expanded the family to include, Caleb and Ava Roberson of Dawsonville, GA.

Throughout her life, Hazel would have several jobs, but none so well remembered as her time as the Pizza Hut Lady (aka, Miss Hazel). She was a dedicated and loyal employee of Pizza Hut and patrons for 23 years serving most of that time as the General Manager in Fitzgerald.

While we may never fully know the impact on other lives on Earth, you all can attest to the positive impact Miss Hazel made during her time here. To know her was to love her, and to enjoy her down home southern cooking. She absolutely adored expressing her love for her family and community through acts of service. Hazel was a dedicated servant to her Lord and Church, Dorminy Mill Baptist Church, through her volunteerism with the Women’s Committee, Vacation Bible School and outreach projects.

For the remainder of our days on Earth, despair not and smile grandly when remembering Miss Hazel. While God shall time our reunion with Nana Banana; for God has assured us of the bliss to come.

Lastly, if you are unsure of your future participation in the Heaven Reunion; wholeheartedly accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and fulfill God’s mission for your life the remainder of your days. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions to Dorminy Mill Baptist Church, 108 Dorminy Mill Church Road, Fitzgerald, GA 31750 or Sand Grove Baptist Church, % Mike Watkins, 21 Watkins Lane, Milan, GA 31060.
