MR. HAROLD “HAL” GIBBS, age 87, of Eastman, GA, died Thursday, March 7, 2019 at his residence.

 A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, March 12, at St. Mark Catholic Church, with Father Stephen Pontzer officiating.

 Mr. Gibbs was born in Pittsfield, MA and was of the Catholic faith. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and retired after serving his country for 21 years, his last tour in Vietnam. After service he was a purchasing agent for several hospitals. He retired to Eastman where he was owner and operator of Chief’s Video for several years, a member of VFW Post 6077 and he volunteered for Habitat For Humanity and Relay For Life. Harold was a faithful servant of St. Mark Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, coin collecting, fishing, hunting, bowling, reading, playing cards, listening to music and spending time with his canine companion, Yuki. He will be remembered for his love of his family, community, country and the ability to always tell a good joke. He was son of the late Elizabeth Spitzer Watkins and Oscar Jackson Gibbs and was preceded in death by a son, Kurt Edward Gibbs and 3 sisters, Ellen Moorhead, Betty McElroy and Lula Farmer.

 Survivors: Wife of 66 years – Domenica “Mecca” Gibbs of Eastman; 2 Daughters – Debra Ann Keane (Dennis) of Virginia Beach, VA and Regina Maddox (Dennis) of Leesburg; 1 Son – Harold K. “Buddy” Gibbs (M.E.) of Eastman; 1 Sister – Rita Soleo of Pensacola, FL; 7 Grandchildren – Jennifer Brown of Eastman, Josh Gibbs (Joanna) of Dallas, TX, Myra Yansom (Bud) of Kathleen, Domenick “Nick” Gibbs of Cochran, Matthew Keane (Julie) of Virginia Beach, VA, Sarah Keane (Andy) of Richmond, VA and Katie Keane (Jordan) of Sacramento, CA; 6 Great Grandchildren – Makayla, Mia, Connor, Riley, Kaitlyn and Grayson; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

 The family may be contacted at the Gibbs residence, 792 Jerry Farmer Road, Eastman and will receive friends in St. Mark Catholic Church 30 minutes before Mass, Tuesday. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to St. Mark Catholic Church, 1687 Hawkinsville Hwy, Eastman, GA 31023.
