MR. GARY REUBEN HARRELL, age 98, of Rhine, GA, died Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, November 14, at Rhine Baptist Church, with Rev. Ricky Gilmore and Mr. Gary Ryals officiating, with interment in Bay Springs Cemetery in Rhine, GA.
Reuben was born in Rhine, GA on November 30, 1925. He was member of Rhine Baptist Church and a graduate of Rhine High School. After graduating high school, he went to work at Robins AFB and was later drafted into the U.S. Army. He served during WWII as a mechanic in the Pacific. Upon fulfilling his military obligation, he returned home from the war and moved to Warner Robins, GA, where he continued his career at Robins AFB. Reuben married in 1942 and was blessed with three wonderful children. He worked for over thirty years at Robins AFB and retired as a Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor. He returned to Rhine, GA in the late 1970s where he had built a new home and lived there until the present day. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many. He loved fishing, hunting, watching Georgia Bulldogs football and Atlanta Braves baseball, farming, and gardening. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was the recipient of his 75-year pin. Reuben was the son of the late Frances Coody Harrell and Ira Gary Harrell and was preceded in death by his Wives, Nell Beatrice Bowen Harrell and Jeannie B. Proctor Harrell, and Sisters, Marilene Harrell and Mildred Callahan.
He is survived by his Daughters – Gail Moore of Leesburg, FL and Mary Shiver of Warner Robins, GA; Son – Gary B. Harrell of Gainesville, GA; Grandchildren – John Moore (Tracy DeLucca), Jeffrey Moore (Melissa), Mark Hummel (Susan), Andrew Hummel, Jennifer Sullivan, Terrie Emerson (Jerry), Gary Jacob Harrell (Maddie), and Whitney Abrahamson (Sam); Several Great Grandchildren and Several Great-Great Grandchildren; Sister – Irene Harrell Urban of Lutz, FL; Numerous Nieces and Nephews; Several Cousins and Numerous Friends.
The family may be contacted at the Harrell residence, 651, Yancey Rd., Rhine, GA, and will receive friends in Rhine Baptist Church from 1:00PM-2:00PM Thursday, November 14. In addition to flowers contributions can be made to Rhine Baptist Church, P.O. Box 335, Rhine, GA 31077.
