MR. GARY GENE HELTON, age 81, of Eastman, GA, died Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at McRae Manor Nursing Home.

 Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, May 7, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Tim Brown officiating, with interment in Vilula Baptist Church Cemetery.

 Gary was born in Middlesworth, IL, of the Christian Faith, and raised in Conyers, GA. He attended Rockdale County High School and later graduated from South Georgia Technical School in Americus, GA, with a certificate in upholstery. After graduating, he worked in upholstery for several years before working at an auto parts store for several years. He later worked for Harley Davidson of Atlanta in their parts department before going to work with Delta Air Lines in 1976 in their parts department, where he enjoyed a 27-year career working for Delta at their Hartsfield International Airport location. He was a dedicated and loving husband of over 59 years, an avid HAM radio operator, whose radio call sign was WB4CSW, and loved scuba diving, fishing, motorcycle, and car racing, making, and flying radio-controlled airplanes, and photography. Gary was the son of the late Ruby Culberson Helton and Ralph Warren Helton and was preceded in death by his Sister, Kathy Ellen Wade, and 3 Brothers-in-law, G.W. Sheffield, Rev. Jack Sheffield, and Furman Wiggins.

 He is survived by his Wife of 59 years – Macie Sheffield Helton of Eastman; Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law – Nyoka Gassett (Frank) of Oglethorpe, Dale Griffin (Donnie) of Zebulon, Patsy Wiggins, Tim Sheffield (Debbie), Tommy Sheffield, and Charlene Sheffield, all of Eastman; Several Nieces, Nephews, Great-Nieces, and Great-Nephews including – Key Wade, Jr. of Conyers, Krystal Wade Ortego (J.J.), Kellsey Ortega, and Kaydence Ortega, all of Eatonton; Canine Companions – Missy and Sissy.

 The family may be contacted at the Helton residence, 3868 Chauncey-Rhine Hwy., Eastman, and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 1:00PM-2:00PM Saturday, May 7. In addition to flowers, contributions may be made to Vilula Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
