MR. JAMES EDWARD “ED” PITTS, age 87, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00PM Saturday, September 28, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with Rev. Al Acosta and Rev. Glenn Conley officiating. The family will receive friends in Bethlehem Baptist Church from 11:00AM-12:00PM Saturday, September 28.
Ed was born in Chauncey, GA on March 19, 1937, to the late Alice Mae Haupt Pitts and Rufus Pitts. He worked as a bridge builder before working for Reeves Brothers, Inc. for over twenty-five years. He later worked for Blue Bird Body Company until his retirement. Ed was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a deacon during his time at Rock Branch Baptist Church. He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was humble and kind to everyone he met. He loved being outdoors and working in his garden. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings, Marvin Pitts, Gladys Jones, Louise Selph, Roscoe Pitts, Jeanette Mullis, Bettyse Hilliard, Bill Pitts, and Jo Cobb.
He is survived by his Daughters – Debbie Evans of Atlanta, GA and Melinda LaMonte (Ben) of Tampa, FL; Grandchildren – Tyler Evans, Charlie LaMonte, and Mollie LaMonte; Sister – Faye Purcell of Pawleys Island, SC; Former Spouse – Mary Alice Pitts of Eastman, GA; Brother-in-law – Leon Cobb of Fort Valley, GA; Numerous Nieces, Nephews, and Extended Family.
