Obituary for Dr. Monroe Middlebrooks

DR. MONROE CASTEEL MIDDLEBROOKS, age 71, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, June 4, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Daniel Cook, Rev. Dahl McDermitt, and Marc Middlebrooks officiating. 

 Dr. Middlebrooks was of the Christian faith, born in Porterdale, GA, and was a Veteran of the US Air Force. He owned and operated Monroe C. Middlebrooks, MD in which he specialized in internal medicine care for 37 years. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgia State University with an honors in biology in 1977. He then graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1981 and completed his residency at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in 1984. He served as the Emergency Department Director and Chief of Staff for many years at the Dodge County Hospital. In his career he completed special studies in dermatology and rheumatology. He loved his family and the patients in which he served in Dodge County and surrounding communities. Just recently he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Dodge County Area Chamber and Development Authority for a career of service and medical care to the citizens of Dodge County and in cooperation with the medical community in advancing health and well-being. His hobbies included farming, syrup making, hunting, fishing, and riding his antique tractors. He was the son of the late Ellen Casteel Middlebrooks and Isaac Samuel Middlebrooks, and was preceded in death by his great grandson, Marshall Mangham, brother, David Odell Middlebrooks, and a Sister-in-law Carolyn Middlebrooks. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years – Billie Ann Rutherford Middlebrooks of Eastman; Daughter – Wendy Mangham (Shane) of Eastman; Son – Marc Middlebrooks of Acworth; 2 Stepsons – Jason Rigby of Eastman and Brian Rigby of Alma; 3 Sisters – Jackie Hart (J.B.) of Aragon, Ellen Jane Wooley (Philip) of Conyers, and Susan Murrell of Eastman; 2 Brothers – James Samuel “Sammy” Middlebrooks of Eastman and Robert Middlebrooks (Patsy) of Covington; 3 Grandchildren – Taylor Middlebrooks (Brittany), Cody Mangham (Becca), and Mason Mangham; 4 Great Grandchildren – Mitch Mangham, Harper Middlebrooks, Axom Middlebrooks, and Abi Mangham; Former Wife - Judy Middlebrooks;  Several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. 

The family may be contacted at the Middlebrooks residence, 2424 WPA Road, Eastman. The family requests omission of flowers and contributions be made to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, 1575 Northeast Expressway, Atlanta, GA 30329. The family request all funeral attendees wear masks in accordance with CDC Guidelines.
