Obituary for Danny Pickett Sr.

MR. DANIEL BOWEN “DANNY” PICKETT, SR., age 86, of Eastman, GA, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Atrium Health Navicent in Macon, GA.

 Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, April 15, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Jerry Peele, Rev. Clay Layfield, and Rev. Todd Crosby officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

 Mr. Pickett was born in Coral Gables, FL in 1936 and as a child moved with his family to Eastman, GA. He was a 1955 graduate of Eastman High School, and later attended Middle Georgia College, where he earned his associate degree. He married the love of his life, Eleanor Fincher in December 1961, before graduating summa cum laude from Georgia State University in Atlanta, with his degree in accounting. He was a certified public accountant and first worked for Arthur Andersen Accounting firm in Atlanta and later moved back home to Eastman to work with Olin Pound, CPA. In the early 1970s he started his own practice, Daniel B. Pickett, CPA. He enjoyed a career of over 30 years as a CPA before retiring in 1997. Danny was a dedicated member and deacon of Eastman First Baptist Church and served as the pianist and organist for over 40 years. He was an avid music lover, especially piano, classical music, and traditional church hymns, and was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed taking care of his yards and was a perfectionist at anything he set his mind to do. Danny was the son of the late Mamie Bowen Pickett and Herman Pickett and was preceded in death by his Sister, Patricia “Patti” Pickett Sparrow, and Brother, John Pickett.

 He is survived by his Wife of 61 years – Eleanor Fincher Pickett of Eastman; Daughter – Carol P. Aquero (Alfred) of Moultrie; Son – Daniel Bowen “Dan” Pickett, Jr. of Eastman; Grandchildren – Anna Aquero Davis (Franky) of Moultrie and Bowen Aquero (Ash) of Marietta; Niece and Nephew – Lynn Lancaster Ingram (Robert) and David Lancaster, both of Hawkinsville; Several Cousins including, Kay Graham, Sue Taylor, and Carol Healy.

 The family may be contacted at the Pickett residence, 602 9th Avenue, Eastman, and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 1:00PM-2:00PM Saturday, April 15. In addition to flowers the family requests contributions to Eastman First Baptist Church, 5107 Oak Street, Eastman, GA 31023.
