MR. COLEY JAMES ROGERS, SR., age 84, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, March 31, 2023, at Bleckley County Memorial Hospital in Cochran, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, April 3, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Mike Grenade and Rev. Wayne Poole officiating, with interment in Bay Springs Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Coley was born in the Plainfield Community of Dodge County and a member of Lovely Grove Baptist Church. He attended Plainfield School as a child, helped his father row crop farm, and helped his Uncle Tom as a carpenter for several years. He later worked as a truck driver for Stuckey’s Candy Company delivering signs and married in 1968. He worked at Reeves Brothers for over 25 years as a cloth room supervisor, where he also got to work alongside his wife. Coley worked at Blue Bird Body Company for over 16 years as a parts specialist. In 1999, he began investing in real estate and from 2014 he was owner and operator of CJR Real Estate Investment Properties. He was a lifelong cattle farmer, a dedicated husband of over 56 years, and the best father, grandfather, and great-grandfather a family could have. He enjoyed working, raising his family, camping, playing his guitar, gardening, trips to the mountains, cattle farming, managing and investing in real estate, and singing country and gospel music. Coley was the son of the late Minnie Estelle Peacock Rogers and William Joseph Rogers and was preceded in death by his Daughter, Barbara Ann Rogers Mullis and Sister, Willene Rogers Sheffield.
He is survived by his Loving Wife of 56 years – Sherry Gay Rogers of Eastman; Daughter – Kathy R. Johnson (Mike) of Eastman; 2 Sons – Coley James “Pa” Rogers, Jr. and Chan Rogers (Candace), both of Eastman; Son-in-law – Mandel Mullis (Angie) of Eastman; 7 Grandchildren – Mara Mullis Graham of Kathleen, Michael C. Johnson (Jamie), Amanda Dupree (Josh), Josh Mullis (Katie), Abby Rogers, Shelly Rogers, and Jamey Rogers, all of Eastman; 9 Great-Grandchildren – Cale Johnson, Mason Johnson, Marlie Moore, Maddox Mullis, Kennedy Dupree, Caitlin Dupree, McKayla Dupree, Kamden Graham, and Libby Mullis; Great-Great-Granddaughter on the way – Aria Jordan; 4 Sisters – Louise Beasley (Bobby) of Dexter, Mary Alice Pitts, Bessie Jean Horne (Cary), and Pearlene Brown (Donald), all of Eastman; Brother – Joseph Rogers (Patrice) of Eastman; Sister-in-law – Judy Herndon (Johnny) of Cedar Grove; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
The family may be contacted at the Rogers residence, 347 Coley Rogers Rd., Eastman, and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 10:00AM-11:00AM Monday, April 3.
