MR. CHARLES KENTON SALYER, age 79, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, July 25, 2022, at his residence.

 A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, July 28, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Mr. Glenn Gatlin officiating, with military honors.

 Charles was born and raised in Johnson County, KY, of the Baptist Faith, and attended school in Johnson County, KY and later at Andis School in Lawrence County, OH. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, the greatest of all the military branches, and began his training in San Antonio, TX at Lackland AFB. He later was assigned to Amarillo AFB where he completed courses in jet aircraft maintenance. During his military career he traveled to many places including Japan, Thailand, Germany, England, and many other places in between. He received numerous accommodations during his time in service and retired at the age of 39 after twenty years of honorable service. After his military career, he worked as a truck driver and drove for many companies including Watkins Trucking and Johnson’s Recycling. He later left trucking and went to work for Clifford Peacock and the Eastman NAPA Auto Parts Store, where he worked for several years so he could earn money for his golfing fees and gambling money. He was an avid golfer who thoroughly enjoyed the sport and the enjoyment he got playing with his friends. He also enjoyed bowling, racket ball, and softball during his younger years. Charles was a simple man who loved tinkering on cars, golf carts, piddling in his shop, and being with his family. He was the son of the late Sophia Kirk Salyer and Elza Salyer.

 He is survived by his Wife of 53 years – Mary Grace Conley Salyer of Eastman; 2 Daughters – Katie Salyer and Bonnie Beck (Allan), both of Eastman; Son – Rob Salyer (Hope) of Eastman; 5 Grandchildren – Kyle Salyer, Ryan Salyer (Kristen), A.Jay Beck, Cody Beck, and Missy Grace Beck; Sister – Patricia “Gail” Salyer of McConnelsville, OH; Brother – Elza Hager Salyer of Springfield, OH; Several Nieces and Nephews.

 The family may be contacted at the Salyer residence, 1422 Golden Rd., Eastman, and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 1:00PM-2:00PM Thursday, July 28. In addition to flowers, the family request contributions to the Dodge County Golf Course, 156 Golf Course Rd., Eastman, GA 31023.
