MR. CHARLES EMORY SHEFFIELD, age 84, of Eastman, GA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, September 7, 2026, at his residence in Eastman.
MR. CHARLES EMORY SHEFFIELD, age 84, of Eastman, GA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, September 7, 2026, at his residence in Eastman.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Woodlawn Cemetery, with Mr. Billy Hartley and Mrs. Debra Sheffield officiating.
Charles was born in Eastman, GA on December 31, 1941, and was a lifelong resident of Eastman. He was a dedicated member of Eastside Baptist Church and worshiped there for many years. He was a longtime deacon of the Church and enjoyed reading his Bible. Charles was a graduate of Dodge County High School and attended college before marrying Shirley Temple Taylor in 1960. He was a dedicated husband and a loving father of three children, Kim, Candy, and Sandy. He worked as a civil service employee at Robins Air Force Base for over 30 years before retiring in the 1990s. After Candy passed in 2007, Charles and Shirley gained custody of her son Chandler and raised him as their own. Charles enjoyed working and for many years he operated his own lawn care business. He enjoyed chewing tobacco, watching TV, working in his yard, grilling and family dinners and in earlier years golfing and fishing were his pastimes. He was affectionately known as “Papa” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Charles was a humble, likeable man and the patriarch of his family and he will be forever missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Arthur Sheffield and Alma Smith Sheffield, his wife of 64 years, Shirley Taylor Sheffield, daughter, Candy Sheffield Major, two brothers, Arthur Lee Sheffield and J. Willie Sheffield and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He is survived by his Son – Kim Sheffield (Debra) of Eastman; Daughter – Sandy Randall (Wes Southerland) of Eastman; Grandchildren – Taylor Sheffield (Kate), Gabby Sheffield, Madison Major Follansbee (Jack), Collin Major, Brandon Randall (Brianna), Chandler Paulk, and Ansley Kate Southerland; Great-Grandchildren – Andie Grace Sheffield and Kolbi Sheffield; Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law – Faye Green (Bailey), Dianne Roland (Dudley), Jack Taylor, and Dianne Taylor; Several Nieces and Nephews.
