MR. CHARLES BELL, age 83, of Eastman, GA, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at his residence.

 At Charles' request, no service or visitation will be held.

Charles was born in Eastman, GA and graduated from Peabody High School in 1956. After high school he attended Fort Valley College for two years and then joined the Army for 10 years where he did one tour in Vietnam. After returning from the war He received a bachelor of science degree from Fort Valley College. He was employed as a math teacher and coach at Chester Elementary from 1969 to 1970.

It was then that he met his beloved wife of 50 years, Shelby and they moved to New Jersey where they resided for 47 years. While in New Jersey he received his master's degree in business administration from Antioch University Philadelphia and went on to work for Atlantic County Government for 42 years. Most of that time he was Director of Harbor Fields Juvenile Detention Center in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. He enjoyed coaching little league and league bowling for many years. He was President of the Juvenile Detention Association of New Jersey and a member of Rotary International (Egg Harbor City, NJ) where he served as President for two terms. After retirement he and Shelby moved back to Eastman where they have lived for the past three and a half years. He was the son of the late Charlie and Minnie Bell and was preceded in death by his son Keith Chambers and his sister Vera Edwards.

He is survived by his wife Shelby; 3 children - Deneen Durant of Davenport, FL, Charles Bell Jr of Charlotte NC, Latrice Johnson of Rome GA; 2 step-daughters - Terri Moore of Dublin and Jill Moore of Taos, NM; 11 grandchildren - Chanena Bryan (Jon), Darius Durant, Eryka Bell, Eryn Bell, Emma Bell, DeShawn Bell, Selena Johnson, Sha'Raine Morris, Jamal Chambers, Brandon Chambers, Skyler Edwards; several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
