Obituary for Cecil Ross

MR. THURMAN CECIL ROSS, JR., age 86, of Eastman, GA, died Thursday, November 16, 2023, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Saturday, November 18, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Kevin Morrison officiating, with interment in Harrell Cemetery in the Midway Community of Pulaski County.

Cecil was born in Dodge County, a 1955 graduate of Dodge High School, farmed in his early years, and was a member of Midway Baptist Church. After high school, he worked as a delivery driver for Pop Cola in Hawkinsville, GA for several years before going to work for many years as a computer programmer for Robins AFB. After retiring from Robins AFB, he worked for over nineteen years for Brooks Auto Parts in Warner Robins, GA. Later, after retiring for good, he enjoyed spending his time restoring and selling cars, working on, and riding his tractors, listening to music of all kinds, and traveling. Cecil had his private pilot’s license and owned and flew his own plane in his younger years. He had a fantastic sense of humor, was a Godly and humble man, and lived a life that left no doubt that he was a child of God and that today he is walking the streets of gold with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was the son of the late Lucile Vaughn Ross and Thurman C. Ross, Sr., and was preceded in death by his Daughter, Sherri Ross Seward, Sister, Faye Ross Stephens and Brother, James Edward Ross.

He is survived by his Wife – Priscilla Smith Ross of Eastman, GA; Daughter – Deborah Ross Hall (Ken) of Eastman, GA; 2 Step-Children – Lea Griffis of Macon, GA and Jason Flanders (Pam) of Byron, GA; Son-in-law – Jerry D. Seward of Hayneville, GA; 3 Grandchildren – Adam Seward of Centerville, GA, Carter Seward (Kayla) of Hayneville, GA, and Melissa Seward of Smyrna, GA; 3 Step-Grandchildren – Annalise Morton (Chris), William Flanders of Augusta, GA, and Alden Griffis of Macon, GA; 3 Great-Grandchildren – Cayden Seward, Cameron Seward, and Callie Seward; Sister-in-law – Sheron Shumans of Brunswick, GA; Brother-in-law – Loran Smith (Myrna) of Athens, GA; Several Nieces and Nephews.

The family may be contacted at the Ross residence and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 2:00PM-3:00PM Saturday, November 18. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Hospice Care Options, 715 Legion Dr., Eastman, GA 31023, or Midway Baptist Church Building Fund, 44 Lightered Knot Rd., Eastman, GA 31023.
