Obituary for Catherine Holland

MS. CATHERINE HOLLAND, age 73, died January 15, 2024, in St. Augustine, FL.

Born in Brunswick, GA on February 17, 1950, Catherine (Cathy) was the daughter of Edna Smith Holland and Jesse Holland. She was a member of St. Augustine Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Lyons High School, received her bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southwestern University, and later earned her master’s degree from the University of Georgia where she became a lifelong Bulldogs fan. She taught at several elementary schools over the years and spent the majority of her career as an educator with the Glynn County School System where she was a 1st grade teacher. She taught for over thirty years and deeply enjoyed her time as an educator and the positive impact she was able to have on young lives. After retiring, she did a variety of volunteer activities including mentoring children at local elementary schools, helping with Friends of the Library, assisting at animal shelters, and staffing an information desk for the local public safety department.

Cathy was beloved by her family and enjoyed spending time with them and her many friends. While living in St. Augustine, she found her soul mate, William Pacetti, and spent many happy years as his loving companion.

She is survived by her cousins – Jane Richards (Bill) of New Braunfels, TX, Brian Chernoff of Austin, TX, Ken Carroll of Eastman, GA, James Holland of Brunswick, GA, several other cousins, and special friends the McInnes family and William Pacetti of St. Augustine, FL.

Ms. Holland will be laid to rest at Plainfield Baptist Church Cemetery in Eastman, GA.

In honor of Cathy’s memory, the family has requested contributions to the Friends of the Library, 1960 N. Ponce De Leon Blvd., St. Augustine, FL 32084 or the St. Augustine Church of Christ https://staugustinecoc.com/.
