MRS. BETTY EUGENIA LOWERY LEONARD, age 92, of Eastman, GA, died Sunday, August 23, 2020 at Heart of Georgia Nursing Home, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

 A visitation will be held from 11:00AM-2:00PM, Wednesday, August 26, with funeral services starting at 2:00PM, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Len Kight officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

 Mrs. Betty was a lifelong resident of Eastman, attended Eastman High School, and was a member of Eastman First Presbyterian Church. She was an entrepreneur who owned and operated several businesses including Betty’s Tog Shop and Hilltop Beauty Shop and Fabric Shop during the 1960s. When not owning her own companies, she put her sales skills to work for many various ventures including WUFF Radio where she sold advertising and also became a radio host.

  Betty was a very religious lady who enjoyed theological research, writings, and recordings. She was a dedicated wife and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed water skiing, working in her yards, and organic gardening. She was the daughter of the late Genie Gilbert Lowery and J.C. Lowery and was preceded in death by her Husband of 68 years, Merle L. Leonard and a Great-Granddaughter, Kyara Dzenis.

 She is survived by her Daughter – Dr. Ginger L. Boutwell (Jimmy) of Tunnel Hill, GA; 2 Sons – Mike Leonard (Peggy) of Fayetteville and John Leonard (Judy) of Dahlonega; 8 Grandchildren – Allen Leonard (Missy), Genie Dzenis (Gunars), Matt Leonard (Amy), Laura Long, John Leonard, Jr. (Lesley), Lana Lane (Russell), Dr. Heather Kight-Isaly (Kurt), and Rev. Len Kight (Teresa); 21 Great-Grandchildren – Curtis Leonard, Ansley Leonard, Zoe Leonard, Preston Leonard, Skylar Dzenis, Kassey Dzenis, Michelle Bischoff, William Leonard, Logan Long, Landon Long, Morgan Keck, Langley Keck, Caitlin Lane, Savannah Lane, Alexander Lane, Carolyn Isaly, Rocco Isaly, Helen Waldron (Adrian), Rachel Kight, Charlie Kight, and Maggie Kight; Numerous Cousins and Friends.

 In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.

 The family would like to offer a special recognition to Margie May who has been a loyal, dependable and loving caretaker for Mrs. Leonard for over 10 years and an important part of her life.
