Obituary for Audie Sheffield
MRS. SARAH AUDIE LOU JONES SHEFFIELD, age 89, of Eastman, GA, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, in Ashburn, GA.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, April 9, at Woodlawn Cemetery, with Rev. Wayne Poole officiating.
Audie was born in Greenwood Springs, MS on May 16, 1935, to the late Fannie Lou Raburn Jones and John Thomas Jones. Her family worked as sharecroppers during her childhood, and she attended school in Mississippi before the family relocated to Dodge County in the mid-1940s. She married in 1954 and raised three wonderful children, Connie, Gene, and Tom. She was a former credit investigator for Sears Robuck, Inc. for many years, before retiring to become a homemaker after the birth of her third child. She was a devoted wife of 56 years, and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Audie was a dedicated member of Ocmulgee Baptist Church, enjoyed attending her church, and participating in church functions. She loved fishing with her family at Lake Eufaula, AL, cooking, and painting nature scenes. She was loved by all her family and friends, and she will be dearly missed by all. Along with her parents, Audie was preceded in death by her Husband, Gene Edward “Curly” Sheffield, Sr., Children, Connie S. Dollar and Rev. Gene Edward Sheffield, Jr., Sisters, Geneva J. Thompson and Sue J. Peacock, and Brother, Mallie Thomas Jones.
She is survived by her Son – Thomas Theo “Tom” Sheffield (April) of Ashburn, GA; Grandchildren – Gina Weatherford (John), Angela Livingston (Jason), Carrie Ann Sheffield Selph (Caleb), Gene “Tripp” Sheffield, III (Caroline), Katie Sheffield (Jon), Will Sheffield (Lauren), and Noah Sheffield; Great-Grandchildren – Samuel Weatherford, Matthew Weatherford, William Weatherford, Kate Weatherford, Lucas Livingston, Allie Livingston, Ben Livingston, Karleigh Self, Maddie Self, Abram Self, Harper Allen, Camden Smith, Torvi Allen, Luke Allen, Lewis Sheffield, and Arver Sheffield; Daughter in law – Cathy Sheffield of Locust Grove, GA, Brother in laws – Radford Peacock, and James Everett Sheffield (Harriet), both of Centerville, GA; Numerous nieces and nephews. Audie would also like to thank the team at Anita Stewart Oncology Center in Tifton, GA. Holly Cox, Kaela Jones and the rest of the team that worked tirelessly to make her comfortable and do all they could to heal her.
