1937 - February 24, 2015

MRS. LOIS GRIFFIN WARREN, age 78, of Milan, GA, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, after a life lived hard & beautiful & full. She leaves behind a family who’ll miss her much, a legacy of 50+ years of marriage, & a weighty heritage of loving well & serving faithful.

Mrs. Warren was born in Hoboken, GA, a 1954 graduate of Hoboken High School & dedicated member of Siloam Baptist Church. She was the beloved daughter of the late Maggie Shuman Page & Bryant Griffin and the widow of J.T. Warren. She was preceded in death by her stepfather – Robert F. Page, brother – Robert “Sonny” Page, and brother-in-law – Keith Thomas.

She is survived by her children – Susan Warren of Cherokee, NC, Bonnie Walker (Billy) of Rhine, Charles Warren (Mary) of Rhine, and Rhonda Jones (Clint) of Milan; her sister – Joyce Thomas of Waycross & her brother – David Page (Patricia) of Hoboken. She also leaves behind those who called her Granny - 36 grandchildren & 14 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews, dear friends, & her sweet caregiver – Bertha “Debra” Perry.

Lois loved Jesus & red roses & riding around with J.T. in the car. You could most often find her in the kitchen - cooking & frying up goodness & baking sweet things – or in her yard, tending her birds & her goats & her flowers. She loved & doted on & took care of all her grands & greats as well as the neighbors’ kids & every child who ever passed through Siloam’s nursery. She loved & took care of & talked about everyone she held dear & J.T. most of all.

Her family & friends will remember her Bible by her chair every day & her yard lit up with Christmas lights each December. We will remember the sugary taste of her homemade cake icing & all the amazing birthday cakes she baked for us through the years. We’ll remember her in the kitchen fixing for us & making us feel like the special one – the way she would always remember & make just what it was we liked, just the way we liked it. We’ll remember how she’d welcomingly holler, “Come in!” every time we knocked on her door & the way she would smile like we shared a secret when J.T. was being ornery. We’ll remember the way she’d sit & tell us stories, past & present - of growing up & growing old - & of all the things & people that were most important to her. We will remember the way she squeezed her eyes shut behind her glasses & laughed almost silent when she got really tickled about something. We will remember all the things she taught us & how she pointed us to Christ, always. We will remember her well.

Mr. Yawn is survived by his wife of fifty-one years Nadine Yawn of Canton, GA; also by son and daughter-in-law, Farris and Stacy Yawn of Canton, GA along with two sister-in-laws, Virginia Gillis and Martha Scales.

Mr. Yawn was born in Milan, Georgia and his family soon moved to Chauncey, Georgia where he lived till he was ten. He also lived in New Orleans, Douglas, Atlanta and Eastman, Georgia. It was in Eastman that he met the love of his life, Nadine Allen. The family moved to Canton in 1978 when he took a job as a teacher at Cherokee High School, where he worked until his retirement in 1993.

Aubrey trained as a young man to be a photographer, but made his mark as a talented master mechanic. He found his true passion, however, as a teacher. He truly loved helping young people reach their potential, especially when he could help at-risk kids turn their lives around. There are many men and women that have told him that they gave him credit for getting them on the right track and in large degree for their success.

He had a huge heart and would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He was always generous with his time and talents, and asked for nothing in return except that you do the same for others. Most importantly, he loved his family with all his heart, and they loved him back just as much. He will be missed.

He was also well known as a talented cook who was always looking to add his special touch to a new dish. He also naturally loved to sample new recipes and really loved finding new ways to prepare his favorites. He always enjoyed working on his technique and his grilling equipment.
