TEENA SCARBOROUGH
1937 - April 27, 2016

MRS. ALICE ERNESTINE “TEENA” KENNEDY SCARBOROUGH, age 78, of Eastman, GA, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Dodge County Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, April 30, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Daniel Cook and Dr. Al Daniell officiating, with interment in Zebulon Cemetery.

Mrs. Scarborough was born in Miami, FL and had resided in Dodge County since 1975. She was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church, a loving mother and grandmother and a dedicated wife of 41 years. Teena was a retired Civil Service employee for Robins AFB and a former employee of Coleman Framing and Gifts for 12 years. She enjoyed doing for others and would often send cards to friends, bake cakes for nursing homes, personal care homes and retired veterans. Her hobbies included writing poetry and for over 30 years she taught Sunday school at the RYDC in Eastman. Teena was daughter of the late Nancy Roland Kennedy and Ernest Kennedy and was preceded in death by a Sister – Doris K. Butts.

Survivors: Her Husband – Marvin Scarborough of Eastman; 3 Sons – Ernest J. “Reb” Coody (Donna), Roger R. Coody, and Kris C. Coody (Angie Allen) all of Cochran; 2 Sisters – Patricia K. Dykes of Cochran and Nancy K. Osteen (Reggie) of Coral Springs, FL; 4 Grandchildren – Jessica Cody (Cody Jones), Cameron Cody, C-Jae Coody, and Hayla Grace Coody; 1 Great-Grandson – Luke Cody; 2 Sisters-in-law – Louise Smisson (Wright) and Sherell Yawn; 2 Brothers-in-law – Melvin Scarborough (Jean) and James Scarborough; Several Nieces and Nephews.

1923 - April 27, 2016

MRS. HAZEL PEACOCK LOWERY, age 93, of Eastman, GA, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 30, at Southerland Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chuck Yzenski and Rev. Karen Cheek officiating. Interment will be at New Union Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Lowery was a lifelong resident of Dodge County and a member of Lovely Grove Baptist Church. She was the widow of Pershing Lowery and the daughter of the late Lillie Parkerson Peacock and Ivy Peacock. She was preceded in death by 4 siblings – Vancine Hair, Herman Peacock, Elma Lowery and Docia Brown.

Survivors: 2 Daughters – Lillie Ann Yawn (Calvin) of Eastman and Ginger Lowery (Thomas Fassuliotis, MD) of Gainesville, GA; 2 Sons – Wendell Lowery (Carol) and Elbern Lowery both of Eastman; 5 Grandchildren – Kit Lowery, Jeff Lowery, Lisa Kiser (Dan), Lori Holbrook (Joel) and Lana Rogers (Will); 3 Great-grandsons – Billy Rogers, Ben Rogers and Bo Rogers; 2 Brothers - Clifford Peacock (Diane) of Eastman and Huey Peacock (Iris) of Anderson, South Carolina; and several Nieces and Nephews.

BETTY JEAN JONES
1934 - April 27, 2016

MRS. BETTY JEAN “B.J.” KIMBERLY JONES, age 81, of Eastman, GA, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Friday, April 29, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Daniel Cook and Rev. Jason Newell officiating, with interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Jones was a lifelong resident of Eastman, a member of Cottondale Baptist Church, where she served as a Training Union Teacher, GA Leader and Sunday School Teacher, and a homemaker. She was the valedictorian of Lumber City High School, a former substitute teacher for the Dodge County School System, a former Cub Scout Leader, loved flowers and was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She was daughter of the late Lillie Bell Alligood Allen & Leo Kimberly and was preceded in death by her Step-Father – Oscar Allen and Brother – Kenneth Kimberly.

Survivors: Husband of 64 years – Clifton N. Jones of Eastman; Son – Derek Jones (Lisa) of Gainesville, FL; 2 Grandchildren – Jade Holton (J.T.) and Cameron Jones; 2 Great-Grandchildren – Amelia Holton and John Clifton Holton; 2 Sisters-in-Law and Brother-in-Law – Vivian Hazouri and Gwen Lowery of Eastman and Cary Jones (Lee) of Jupiter, FL; Several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Extended Family Members.

MRS. JANICE RUTHERFORD CANNON, age 56, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Thursday, April 28, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Tim Brown officiating.

Mrs. Cannon was a lifelong native of Dodge County, of the Baptist Faith, a graduate of Dodge County High School and a homemaker. She was a loving mother and sister and enjoyed gardening and caring for animals. She was daughter of the late Ann Brown Kirkpatrick & John William “Billy” Rutherford.

BUDDY BURNAM
1944 - April 24, 2016

MR. ELLIS “BUDDY” BURNAM, age 71, of Eastman, GA, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Macon Regency Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, April 27 at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Ralph Smith & Rev Charles Alligood officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Burnam was a native of Rhine, a member of Eastman Bible Baptist Church, a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Army and a 21 year retired worker for the CSX Railroad. He was a 10 year employee of the Dodge State Prison, enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, woodworking, carpentry and spending time at McDonalds with his friends. He was son of the late Eunice Pauline Yancey Burnam & Ellis C. Burnam and was preceded in death by a Sister – Jeanette Burnam.

Survivors: Wife of 19 years – Joy Jewell Burnam of Eastman; Daughter – Jodi A. Kane (Stephen) of Thomasville, NC; Step-Daughter – Susan Ursrey (Matt) of Baxley; 4 Grandchildren – Christian Giovanni Kane, Cole Ursrey, Austin Ursrey and Cailyn Ursrey; 3 Brothers – Jack Burnam (Linda), Don Burnam (Gail) and Morrell Burnam (Pam) all of Eastman; Sister-in-Law – Brenda Widener (Larry) of Eastman; Several Nieces and Nephews.

MRS. JOHNNIE FAYE HENDRIX REGISTER, age 76, of Eastman, GA, died on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Dodge County Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00PM Tuesday, April 26, at Cottondale Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Daniel Cook officiating.

Mrs. Register was a native of Dodge County and a member of Eastman Congregational Holiness Church. She enjoyed playing her accordion and singing and was a homemaker. Johnnie Faye was daughter of the late Lula Mae Rozar Hendrix and Joel Ivey Hendrix. Johnnie was preceded in death by her Husband – Wilbur Dodge Register; Sister – Lois Adel Ziss; Brother – Joel Edward Hendrix and four infant siblings.

Survivors: 2 Sisters – Joyce H. Edmond (William) and Evelyn H. Joiner (Ray) both of Eastman; 14 Nieces & Nephews – Jimmy Ziss, Ronnie Ziss, Kenny Ziss, Billy Edmond, Edward Edmond, Charles Edmond, Linda H. MRS. DORIS FARMER JOINER, age 81, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, April 22, 2016, at the Dodge County Hospital.

Mrs. Joiner was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of New Daniels Baptist Church, a graduate of Dodge High School and a retired clerk for Robins AFB. She was a former employee of the Dodge County Magistrate Court and a member of the Eastman Pilot Club. She was daughter of the late Lula Durden Farmer & Jerry Farmer, widow of Millard Joiner and was preceded in death by a Brother – Frank Farmer.

MRS. VICKIE POWELL DARNELL, age 68, of Lake City, FL, formerly of Dodge County, died Sunday, April, 17, 2016 at Avalon Healthcare & Rehab Center in Lake City, FL.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, April 20, at Dublin Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Robert Rogers officiating.

Mrs. Darnell was a graduate of Dodge County High School, a member of Zebulon Baptist Church and a retired receptionist for the Medical Center of Central Georgia. She loved crafts, fishing and deer hunting. She was daughter of the late Ida Lee Braswell Powell & Charlie Powell, widow of George Robert “Bob” Darnell and was preceded in death by 2 Sisters – Melba St. Louis and Barbara Powell.

SAMMY EDGE
1946 - April 14, 2016

MR. SAMMY HAROLD EDGE, SR., age 70, Eastman, GA, died Thursday, April 14, 2016 at his residence.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Edge was born in Telfair County, was a member of Ocmulgee Baptist Church, a 1966 graduate of Dodge County High School, a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served in the 3rd Battalion 7th Marine Regiment and was also a member of VFW Post 6077, Hawkinsville, GA. He was a retired manager for Ferrell Gas Company, a family man and enjoyed gardening, hunting and the outdoors. Sammy was the son of the late Matilu Walker Edge & James Evely Edge and was preceded in death by a Sister – Barbara Ann Broome.

Survivors: Wife – Carminta Giddens Edge of Eastman; Son – Sammy “Sam” Edge, Jr. (Holly) of Simpsonville, SC; Granddaughter – Katherine Elizabeth “Katie” Edge; 2 Foster Granddaughters – Peanut and Little Bit; 2 Grandsons – Dustin Croft and Brandon Croft; Brother – James Ronald “Ronnie” Edge (Frances) of Chester; 3 Aunts – Nadine Morris, Hortense Edge and Peggy Walker; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

MRS. PAMELA LYNN POLK GRENADE, age 56, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, April 15, in Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Arnold Rye and Rev. Brian Martin officiating.

Mrs. Grenade was a native of Macon, a member of Liberty Baptist Church and a retired LPN for Middle Georgia Nursing Home. She enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends. She was daughter of the late Jacqueline Burnley Polk & Joseph Polk and was preceded in death by a Son – Joseph Stuart Giddens and Grandson – Kenneth Lee Paul.

KATRINA MARIE GRAHAM, age 35, of Cadwell, GA, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin.

Katrina was a native of Laurens County, a High School Graduate, attended New Union Baptist Church and was a former cashier at KFC. She enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends.

Charles Wayne Hulette, Sr.

Charles Wayne Hulette, Sr., 77, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016.

A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Lizella Baptist Church with Reverend Shannon Back and Reverend Chris Minton officiating. Burial will be private at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Rhine, GA. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lizella Baptist Church, 2950 South Lizella Road, Lizella, Georgia 31052.

Mr. Hulette was born in Dodge County, Georgia to the late Calvin B. Hulette and Adele Spires Hulette and was preceded in death by his son, Bruce Hulette. He was a member of Lizella Baptist Church and was active in his Sunday School Class as well as an Usher. Mr. Hulette was retired from the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department after 27 years of service and was a member of the Fireman’s Association. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle.

He is survived by sons, Wayne Hulette, Jr. (Fulvia) of Lizella, Danny Hulette (Valerie) of Acworth, and Jeffery Hulette (Tori) of Bonaire; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; brother, B.A. Hulette of Fort Valley; sisters, Lorene Yancey of Bolingbroke, Bonelle Sheffield of Macon, Patsy Clinard of Macon, and Janice Brantley of Eastman; numerous nieces and nephews.

MR. JERRY WILBON JOHNSON, age 77, of Eastman, GA, died on Sunday, April 10, 2016 in the Dodge County Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, April 13, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Trent Dykes officiating, with interment in Gresston Holiness Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was a native of Dodge County and a member of Plainfield Baptist Church. He was a Retired Veteran of the United States Air Force Reserve, a 33 year retired Packing and Crating Specialist at Robins AFB and enjoyed fishing and working on the family farm. Jerry was son of the late Nellie Ruth Ussary Johnson and L.M. Johnson, widower of Shirley Ann Parkerson Johnson and was preceded in death by a Daughter – Tammy Darlene Johnson, Brother – Ned Johnson and Daughter-in-law – Crystal Smith Johnson.

Mrs. Bowen was a native of Milan, an active member of Sand Grove Baptist Church and a 38 year retired employee of Southern Bell. She was a 1950 graduate of Rhine High School, an active member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and enjoyed cooking, spending time and caring for her family and friends. She was daughter of the late Annie Williams Brown & Jess Brown, widow of Robert Allen Bowen and was preceded in death by 3 Brothers – J.I. Brown, John K. Brown and Larry Brown.

MRS. WYNELL TRIPP HAYNES, age 72, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Dodge County Hospital.

Mrs. Haynes was a native of Dodge County but had lived in Roberta, GA for many years. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, a homemaker and a former waitress for over 15 years at the Huddle House. She was daughter of the late Sophia Sheffield Tripp & J.B. Tripp and was preceded in death by a Sister – Estelle Jones-Sheffield and 4 Brothers – William Tripp, Jack Tripp, Joel Tripp and Johnny Tripp.

Survivors: Sister – Annelle Taylor of Eastman; Half-Sister – Nancy Lavenia Rape of Eastman; Aunt – Louise Reynolds (Fred) of Albany; Numerous Nieces, Nephews, Great-Nieces, Great-Nephews and a host of Extended Family Members.

MRS. GRACE GIDDENS COLEMAN, age 89, of Warner Robins, GA, died April 2, 2016 in Warner Robins.

Mrs. Coleman was born to the late Charlie and Narcissus Murkerson Giddens of June 18, 1926 in Eastman, GA. She lived most of her life until moving to Warner Robins for the past five years. Grace worked as a Librarian for the Ocmulgee Regional Library for many years until her retirement. She has a love for her family most importantly her late husband, Obie Dyle Coleman and son, Charles Dyle Coleman who preceded her in death. Grace was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Eastman, GA.

Grace is survived by her grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

MR. PARKER NUE MULLIS, SR., age 93, of Jesup, GA, died Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in Wayne Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, April 2, at New Union Baptist Church.

Mr. Mullis was a native of Eastman, lived in Wayne County, GA for most of his adult life and was a Christian. He was retired from the Department of Transportation and enjoyed hunting, fishing and being a “Granddaddy”. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in the South Pacific during WWII and was a member of the Eastman Masonic Lodge 279.

Survivors: Wife of 70 years – Doretha Rowell Mullis of Jesup; Daughter – Phyllis Mullis of Stone Mountain; Sons – Parker N. Mullis, Jr. of Jesup, William Henry “Bill” Mullis (Tonya) of Brunswick and Ken Mullis (Christy) of Valdosta; 12 Grandchildren; 2 Great-Grandchildren; Brothers – J.D. Mullis and Bryce Mullis (Frances) both of Eastman; Several Nieces and Nephews.

MR. SID “DICK” SCARBOROUGH, age 82, of Eastman, GA, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Eastman Healthcare & Rehab.

Mr. Scarborough was a native of Emmanuel County, GA before moving to Milan, GA in the 1940s, and to Dodge County in 1955. He was a retired cattle rancher and lifelong farmer and a former bridge builder with the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was son of the late Carrie Dove Scarborough & Joe B. Scarborough and was preceded in death by 6 Siblings – Susie Vaughn, Cardeal “Babe” Scarborough, Gladys Knowles, Raymond Scarborough, Jody Scarborough and Harvey Lee Scarborough.

Mr. Adams was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, of the Baptist Faith and a retired carpenter. He enjoyed gardening and car racing. He was the son of the late Susie Green Adams & Roscoe Adams, Sr. and was preceded in death by 4 Sisters – Linda Coleman, Wanda Keeling, Donna Evans and Oncean Adams and 2 Brothers – Roscoe “Junior” Adams, Jr. and Roston “Big A” Adams.

He loved fishing, camping, gardening, hunting and taking long walks with his wife. She also enjoyed crafting and was excited and proud with each creation she made. She was daughter of the late Christine McIntyre Pittman & John Henry Pittman and was preceded in death by a Granddaughter – Lilly Webb, Sister – Gail Pittman and Brother – Bobby Pittman.

Leroy was son of the late Betty Hilliard & John Hilliard and was preceded in death by his Wife – Bettyse Pitts Hilliard and 2 Sisters – Ruth Purvis and Sammie Lou Skipper.

Mrs. Carr, born in Plant City, FL, was a member of Gresston Baptist Church and a retired employee of the State of Georgia Dodge County Service Center. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She was daughter of the late Marietta Surrency Bennett & Lacey Bennett and was preceded in death by her Husband – Herman B. MRS. MARGARET ELIZABETH FORDHAM THOMPSON, age 67, of Eastman, GA, died Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Eastman Healthcare and Rehab.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, February 22, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Daniel Cook officiating, with interment in Cottondale Cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson was a lifelong resident of Eastman, a member of Cottondale Baptist Church and a retired LPN for over 40 years and worked at Middle Georgia Nursing Home, Fairview Park Hospital and Heart of Georgia Nursing Home. She enjoyed spending time at church, with her family and her F.R.O.G. sisters. She was daughter of the late Mary Nell Asbell Fordham & Curtis Edward Fordham, widow of Joseph Woodroe Thompson and was preceded in death by her Brother – Curtis Donnell Fordham.

He enjoyed fishing, building things, grilling, and family gatherings. Clint was born in Laurens County and of Baptist Faith. He was a former employee of White & Lavender Pest Control and a correctional officer for the Eastman YDC. Clint enjoyed hunting and outdoors activities. He was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents – Mildred & Ben Jackson and Maternal Grandparents – M.E. & Katurah Holmes.

Mr. Sheffield was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army and was a devout Christian, who was a member, deacon and clerk of Vilula Baptist Church. He was graduate of Rhine High School, a retired surveyor for ASCS for over 30 years, a farmer, former justice of the peace and enjoyed fishing and hunting. She enjoyed traveling the country with the Bank of Eastman. She was daughter of the late Sallie Sheffield Howard & William Henry Howard, widow of J.W. Scarborough, Jr. and was preceded in death by 2 Sisters – Daisy Howard Rogers and Nannie Mae Giddens.

Mr. Peacock was a native of Eastman, of the Baptist Faith, a graduate of Dodge County High School and a retired employee of Emerson Electric Company Alco Controls Division. He enjoyed gardening and watching wrestling. 1938 - January 11, 2016

Dorothy Nora Faulk Giddens, age 77, of Flovilla, GA passed away Monday evening, January 11, 2016 at her residence.

She was born in Elko, GA April 1, 1938 daughter of the late Albert and Viola Faulk. She was wife of the late James Garner Giddens who passed away in 2003. Mrs. Giddens was a retired employee of the Department of Family and Children’s Services in Covington and had been employed by Butts County. She was a member of the Flovilla Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ellis and Wanda Giddens, daughter, Mary Emily Giddens, granddaughter, Alexis Rae Giddens, two sisters, Ella Mae Taylor and Vivian Albright, brother, Charles Faulk. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Faulk.

BRANDON BOBBY HUTTO, age 33, of Chauncey, GA, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Coliseum Medical Center in Macon.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, January 9, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Stephen Upchurch officiating, with interment in New Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

Brandon was born in McRae, GA, a member of Chauncey Baptist Church, attended Dodge County High School and was a part time worker at Lee’s Lawnmower Repair. He was a former employee of Fred’s Inc. and Captain D’s, enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, playing video games and listening to gospel and country music. He was preceded in death by a Brother – Timothy Hutto.

MRS. MARGARET ELOISE LOWERY NOLES, age 87, of Eastman, GA, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Bryant Nursing Home in Cochran, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Friday, January 8, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, with Mr. Glen Peacock officiating, with interment in New Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Noles was a native of Greensboro, NC, a graduate of Duncan High School, in Lyman, SC, a graduate of Woffard Business School, in Spartanburg, SC and upon graduating college she moved to Eastman. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a 25 year retired customer service representative for OEMC and enjoyed tending her flowers and caring for her family. She was daughter of the late Annie Lou Weeks Lowery & James Austin Lowery, widow of Joel Chandler “J.C.” Noles and was preceded in death by a Brother – Austin Venoy Lowery.

MR. JOHN HINSON, SR., age 75, of Dexter, GA, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.

Mr. Hinson was a native of Cochran, GA, a member of Hazlehurst Pentecostal Holiness Church, a 10 year retired employee of Eastman Cotton Mill, a retired employee of Reeves Brothers, Inc. and a greeter at the Food Depot in Dublin. He enjoyed fishing, singing and playing his guitar. He was son of the late Mattie Lou Cannon Hinson & Hoke Hinson and was preceded in death by 2 Infant Children – Thea Hinson and Janet Hinson and a Grandson – Joseph Hinson.

She was daughter of the late Sally Cannon Peacock & Elzie Peacock, widow of William Atlas “Bo” Ward, who she was married to for over 63 years, and was preceded in death by her Son – Larry N. Mr. Brown was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Sand Grove Baptist Church, a graduate of Rhine High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired contractor for over 30 years. He was owner and operator of James I. Brown & Sons Construction. He enjoyed bird hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was son of the late Annie Williams Brown & Jess Brown, widower of Glenda Pippen Jones-Brown and was preceded in death by a Son – James “Digger” Brown, Jr., 2 Grandsons – Russ Holder and Clay Jones and 2 Brothers – John K. MR. ARTHUR RAY SHEPHERD, SR., age 72, of Eastman, GA, died Saturday, December 26, 2015 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Tuesday, December 29, at Hopewell Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Wilbanks officiating, with interment in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Shepherd, formerly of Macon, GA was of the Baptist Faith. He obtained a nursing degree from Georgia College and was a 25 year retired registered nurse for the Dodge County Hospital where he served as House Supervisor. Ray was an avid baseball fan, founder of the Bloomfield Little League Baseball Park in Macon and was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. He was son of the late Bertha Peacock Shepherd and Frank Shepherd and was preceded in death by a Son – Arthur Ray Shepherd, Jr., Sister – Pat Shepherd and 2 Brothers - Bobo Shepherd and Scotty Shepherd.

He was formerly employed at Dodge County Motor Company, Goodyear Tire Company, Huckabee Buick Cadillac, Lakeside Ford and Brannen Ford and was owner of Holts Automotive and H & H Tire Company. Albert was son of the late Willie Pearl Davis Holt & Willie Coleman Holt and was preceded in death by a Brother – C.W. Holt.

Mr. Strickland was a native of Ocala, FL, of the Baptist Faith, a retired skilled electrician and carpenter for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and being outdoors. MRS. TOBY CLAIRE CHASTEEN HARMON, age 79, of Warner Robins, GA, died Monday, December 7, 2015 at her residence.

Mrs. Harmon was a native of Chauncey, GA, a member of Chauncey Baptist Church, a 1951 graduate of Chauncey High School, attended Macon Junior College and loved tending to her family and friends. She was a volunteer candy striper, hospice worker and helped with the Welcome Wagon for Robins AFB for several years. She started out as a clerk typist (GS-2) in 1958, returned to the base in 1976 and retired as a (GS-13) Personnel Staffing Specialist in 2007 at 70 years of age. She loved being a member of the officers’ wives club for many years and loved reading, gardening, water painting, cooking and ceramics. She was daughter of the late Jeanette Jones Chasteen and Troy “Sam” Chasteen and was preceded in death by her Former Husband – LTC. Frank Harmon (Retired) and Brother – Kendall Chasteen.

She was daughter of the late Sula Coley Hulett & Dave Hulett, widow of Walter Thomas Reaves and was preceded in by a Great-Granddaughter – Sophia, 2 Sisters – Ruth Hulett and Ruby Hulett and 2 Brothers – Talmadge Hulett and Roosevelt Hulett.

WILLENE SWINSON
1925 - December 6, 2015

MRS. CARRIE WILLENE JONES SWINSON, age 90, of Cochran, GA, died Sunday, December 5, 2015 at her residence.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, December 8, at Antioch #2 Cemetery, with Mr. Freddie Dwozan officiating.

Mrs. Swinson was a native of Dodge County, a member of Antioch #2 Baptist Church, a graduate of Milan High School, valedictorian of Middle Georgia College and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She was a homemaker and during her years in Florida was active in Shalimar Baptist Church. Willene’s tender watch care showed itself very early toward siblings, in addition to a vivacious and sweetly mischievous side. Despite a spare frame and occasionally severe health challenges, she was every inch the devoted military wife, gracing and gladdening homes in far-flung parts of Asia and even unfamiliar snow of Massachusetts. She evacuated their four children from Taiwan in 1958, as service personnel remained on crisis watch. This supportive poise continued as children and grandchildren went on to serve their country around the world. In love with the music and dance of her day, she also enjoyed shopping and spending time with family. She was daughter of the late Sarah Martha Hardy Jones & John “R.C.” Jones, Sr., widow of Maj. Jim I. Swinson, Sr. (Retired) and was preceded in death by a Son – Jimmy Swinson, Jr, Great-Grandson – Tyler Williams and 8 Siblings – Martha Kelly, Jackye Fuller, Charlton Jones, Betty Taylor, Kendell Jones, Wendell Jones, Jane Evelyn Jones and Wilburn Carroll Jones.

MR. DANNY RAY BUSBIE, age 48, of Bloomingdale, GA formerly of Rhine, GA, died Wednesday, December 2, 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, December 5, at Sharon Baptist Church, with Rev. Scott McDuffie officiating, with interment in Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Busbie was born in Macon, GA, a member of Sharon Baptist Church, a 1985 graduate of Thompkins High School and a former heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and Nascar racing. He was preceded in death by his Father – Jeff William Busbie, Sr.

MR. JAMES W. WOODHAM, SR., age 88, of Eastman, GA, died Saturday, November 28, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Woodham requested no funeral or memorial services. He requested his ashes along with his wife Joy’s ashes to be scattered on their family farm in Brinson, GA.

Mr. Woodham was born in Hartford, AL on December 10, 1926, served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1949 and was a graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in Business. He was of the Baptist Faith and retired as the Accounting Manager with U.S. Gypsum in Chicago, IL. He was son of the late Ides Stewart Woodham & Robert Bentley Woodham, widower of Joy Boswell Woodham and was preceded in death by 2 Grandchildren – Jeff Woodham and Brittany Woodham.

MR. HERSCHEL EARTHERN BRACK, age 81, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, November 28, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Dwaine Dunn officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Brack was a native of Dodge County, a deacon of Greenlawn Baptist Church and a retired butcher for Robins AFB. He enjoyed farming, raising livestock, fishing and spending time with his family. He was son of the late Nellie Redding Brack & Farris Earthern Brack and was preceded in death by 5 Siblings – Effie Bennett, Lois Morris, Eschol Brack, Helen Widener and Hudson Brack.

Survivors: Wife of 63 years – Yvonne Clark Brack of Eastman; 3 Daughters – Belinda B. MR. LAWRENCE WAYNE DISHLER, age 84, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, November 23, 2015 at Serenity Place Hospice in Dublin.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Dishler was a native of Rochester, PA, a retired truck driver for Allied Farm Equipment, a dedicated husband and father, loved sports and wrote numerous poems and songs. He was son of the late Lucy Hupp Dishler & Henry John Dishler, widower of Sarah Louise Pander Dishler and was preceded in death by a Son – Lawrence “Larry” Allen Dishler and 4 Siblings – Julia Finkenbinder, Margaret Tooch, Charles Dishler and Leroy Dishler.

ROY HOSFORD
1917 - November 18, 2015

MR. ROY COLUMBUS HOSFORD, 97, of Clayton, and recently Dublin, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015.

A memorial service will be held 3:00PM Sunday, November 22 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Chester, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.

Born on a farm 3 miles outside of Yonkers, Georgia on December 9, 1917, he was the son of the late Columbus B. and Annie Mae (Belflower) Hosford. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary E., and a brother, Ralph F.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Ann (Hamilton) Hosford, whom he married in 1948; daughter, Donna Milam Roberson and her husband Ronald of Clarkesville; son, Wayne B. Hosford of West Palm Beach, Florida; grandson, David Milam, and great grandson, Rocker of Habersham County; brothers Carl D. Hosford (Joy Daniel); James O. Hosford (Kemper Holt), sister Imogene Mullis (Cletus J.), all of Chester.

Roy graduated Chester High School in 1937, and joined FDR's CCC initiative in Washington State in 1939. He proudly served his country in the US Army throughout WW2 from 1941-45, and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star, EAME Campaign Medal, American Defense Service and Good Conduct medals for tours in Iran and India. Following his departure from the Army with the rank of First Sergeant (Medical Division), he went to Miami, Florida, where he continued pursuit of public service by becoming a police officer, and eventually a plain-clothes detective with the City of Miami Police Department until retiring as Lieutenant in 1968. Working as a zoning-enforcement officer for then-called Dade County, Florida until 1979, when he retired with his wife to the mountains of north Georgia, residing near Clayton, for 32 years where he was active in local and national party politics, until moving to be near family for a transition to assisted living in Dublin. Roy was known for his kindness and pleasure in helping others, upholding the law, whether civil or spiritual, and did so quietly and with stalwart grace. A truly selfless man, he will be ever missed, yet celebrated for his life and great character. His spiritual faith was unshakable, and he taught Men's Sunday School for years at his home church of Clayton Baptist.

Mrs. Calhoun was a native of Abbeville, GA, a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, a graduate of Wilcox County High School and a homemaker. She was daughter of the late Willie Elijah Anderson Keen & Joseph “Joe” Keen, widow of Weldon H. Dowdy and William George “Billy” Calhoun and was preceded in death by 2 Sons – James Thomas Dowdy and Michael Dowdy, Daughter – Faye Bohannon, Son-in-Law – Scott Anderson, 2 Grandsons – Tim Weston and Jason Weston, 2 Great-Grandsons – Dustin Simmons and Robert Chick, Jr. and 10 Siblings.

He was a member and deacon of Abbeville First Baptist Church, a retired CSX Railroad employee for over 40 years and enjoyed fishing and working. He was son of the late Mary Ida Barron Bowen & Hoyt A. Bowen, widower of Wylene Pearl Burnham Bowen and was preceded in death by 4 Siblings – Steve Bowen, Evelyn Dowdy, Dorothy Nelson and Mildred McRae.

MRS. MARY NANNIE MAY PARKERSON, age 83, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, November 13, 2015 at Dodge County Hospital.

Mrs. Parkerson was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a graduate of Dodge County High School, member of Lovely Grove Baptist Church and a retail clerk for B.C. Moore’s for over 20 years. She enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting and spending time with her family. She was daughter of the late Anna Asbell May & Gus May, widow of H.M. Parkerson and was preceded in death by 5 Siblings – Odessa Sikes, Carrie Logan, Bill May, Gus James May and Bobby May.

Mrs. Coursey was a native of Dodge County, a dedicated member of Eastman First United Methodist Church, a member of the Alathean Sunday School Class and a 42 year retired teacher for the Chatham County School System. She loved children and enjoyed fellowship. She was daughter of the late John J. Woodard & Luzelle “Winnie” Giddens Woodard, widow of Henry C. Coursey and was preceded in death by her Daughter – Veneta Coursey and Siblings – Zelma Grimsley, Lorene Hale, James Woodard and Edmond R. Woodard.

Mr. Maloy was a native of Milan, GA, a member of Macon Evangelistic Church and a retired truck driver for Ryder Truck Lines of Macon. He was a family man, son of the late Sallie Mae Yancey Maloy & John Hugh Maloy and was preceded in death by his Siblings – Hugh Thomas Maloy, Susie Alice Law, Maggie May Campbell and Christine Watson.

Marion "Pete" Davis Silver
1939 - September 19, 2014

Mrs. Marion Davis Silver, affectionately known as "Pete", died on Friday, September 19, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. Pete was born in RFD DeSoto on February 20, 1939. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Addison Davis, Jr. and Maidee Conley Davis Walker; and by her husband, Stanley Silver.

Pete graduated from Americus High School and Georgia Southwestern College. She was an outstanding student who loved sports and dancing. She was honored as a Superlative in her Senior class. In addition to being a cheerleader at Americus High School, Pete loved playing basketball, both in high school and college. At Georgia Southwestern, Pete was elected co-Captain of the basketball team in 1958 and 1959, and won numerous medals including, All Tournament and Sportsmanship Awards. Pete was also elected a "GSW Favorite" and Sweetheart of Kappa Sigma Phi Fraternity. In 2002, Pete was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at Georgia Southwestern State University.

Following college, Pete moved to Atlanta and worked as a Reservations Agent for Delta Air Lines; she later moved to New York City where she became a Supervisor in New York Reservations, acted as an Administrative Assistant for the Vice President for Delta and went on to become a Chief Supervisor. Pete traveled extensively to Europe, Asia and The Middle East.

Returning to Americus in 1990, Pete became very involved in community organizations.

She first became a GSW Foundation Board Member, served as Secretary of the GSW Foundation, Finance Committee, Executive Committee, Chairman of Compensation Committee and Sumter County Initiative Board Member. Pete was a member of Habitat for Humanity and worked along with former President, Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter building one of the first homes here in Americus. She was involved with raising funds for the Windsor Hotel, the Rylander Theater and for the construction of the new Americus Hospital following the tornado.

Pete was always very generous and passionate about her family, her friends and her precious pets.

Pete is survived by her brother Joseph Addison (Bubber) Davis, III and his wife, Wyndy of Leesburg; her sister Shirley Davis Mattingly and her husband, Don of Clearwater, FL, son Clifford Silver and daughter Denise Silver Leinhardt, (husband Julian) and children Carli and Samantha, of Boca Raton, Fla. She is survived by many loved nieces and nephews including Ann Marie Hatcher. She is survived by her long-time caregiver, Mary Louise Singleton of Americus who was very special to Pete.

A Memorial service will be held on Monday, September. 22, 2014, at Aldridge Funeral Services, 612 Rees Park, Americus, GA at 6:00pm.

In lieu to flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Phoebe Sumter Hospice P.O. Box 1434 Americus, Ga. 31709. Burial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus. The Hilliard Brothers, from Rhine, GA, are musicians for the funeral service.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00PM Friday, January 13 from the graveside in Orphans Cemetery, with Dr. Jerry Peele and Rev. Charles Robinson officiating.

Warren was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Eastman First Baptist Church and Owner & Operator of Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home. He was a member of the Eastman Lions Club, Georgia Funeral Directors Association and Member of the Board of Directors of Citizens Bank and Trust. He was preceded in death by his Father - Warren E. Southerland, Sr.

Survivors: Wife – Joy Jones Southerland; 3 Sons – Warren E. “Wes” Southerland III, Wil C. Southerland (Brandy) & Gant W. Southerland (Susan); 3 Grandchildren – Caroline Southerland, Sydney Southerland & Briana Southerland; Mother – Pearl Belflower Southerland; Sister – Ann S. Peacock (James); Mother-in-Law – Joyce B. Jones; Sister-in-Law – Rhonda Dwozan (Freddie); Aunt – Berta Mae Belflower Wright; 6 Nieces – Shelli Goodman (Tony), Abby Peacock, Tracy Harrell, Joni Coleman (Tracy), Marci McCranie (Brian), Krista Rainey (Chip) and Several Cousins.
