1971 - February 8, 2016

CLINTON CHARLES “CLINT” JACKSON, age 44, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, February 8, 2016 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, February 11, at Limestone Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Kevin Morrison and Rev. Olin Hamlin officiating.

Clint was born in Laurens County and of Baptist Faith. He was a former employee of White & Lavender Pest Control and a correctional officer for the Eastman YDC. Clint enjoyed hunting and outdoors activities. He was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents – Mildred & Ben Jackson and Maternal Grandparents – M.E. & Katurah Holmes.

Survivors: Mother and Father – Ruthie Jo Holmes Jackson and Charles Jackson both of Eastman; Brother – Jeff B. Jackson (Teresa) of Cochran; Aunts and Uncles – Faye Giddens (Rex) of Eastman, L.M. 1926 - February 8, 2016

MR. NEEDHAM LEWIS “N.L.” SHEFFIELD, age 89, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, February 8, 2016 at McRae Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Wednesday, February 10, at Vilula Baptist Church, with Rev. Tim Brown and Rev. Benny Moore officiating, with interment in Vilula Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Sheffield was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army and was a devout Christian, who was a member, deacon and clerk of Vilula Baptist Church. He was graduate of Rhine High School, a retired surveyor for ASCS for over 30 years, a farmer, former justice of the peace and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was son of the late Mary Eugenia Howard Sheffield & John Lewis Sheffield and was preceded in death by 2 Sisters – Mary Eugenia Howard and Ruby Horne and 3 Brothers – Arthur Sheffield, Sol Sheffield and John Sheffield.

1925 - February 7, 2016

MRS. HAZEL OLEAN HOWARD SCARBOROUGH, age 90, of Eastman, GA, died Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Bryant Nursing Home in Cochran.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, February 10, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Jerry Peele officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Scarborough was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Eastman First Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class and a retired telephone operator for Southern Bell. She enjoyed traveling the country with the Bank of Eastman. She was daughter of the late Sallie Sheffield Howard & William Henry Howard, widow of J.W. Scarborough, Jr. and was preceded in death by 2 Sisters – Daisy Howard Rogers and Nannie Mae Giddens.

Survivors: Daughter – Janis S. Braswell of Atlanta; Grandson – Jeb Braswell of Atlanta; Caretakers – Kim and Daniel Koch of Eastman; Several Cousins and Friends.

1945 - February 6, 2016

MR. CLARENCE EUGENE “GENE” SMITH, age 70, of Eastman, GA, died Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM Tuesday, February 9, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Myron Parkerson, Rev. Jimmy Jewel and Rev. Greg Lowery officiating.

Mr. Smith was a native of Dodge County, a member of Freedom Worship Center, a retired Piggly Wiggly store manager in Griffin, GA, a farmer during his time in Dayton, TN, and a former employee of Alcoa Industries. He enjoyed tractors, fishing and spending time with his wife and family. He was preceded in death by his Father – Sam Smith and 2 Brothers-in-Law – Wallace Lowery and Bucky Davis.

MR. RUFUS COLEMAN, age 85, of Eastman, GA, died Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, February 7, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with Mr. Cam Coleman officiating, with interment in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Coleman was a native of Eastman, of the Christian Faith and a self employed merchant. He was a former employee of Stuckey’s, Inc. and J.P. Stevens, Inc and enjoyed buying and selling antiques and telling his stories to anyone that would listen. He was son of the late Maggie Braswell Coleman & William Hiram Coleman and was preceded in death by his former Wife – Ivalene Rozier and 6 Siblings – Elgin Coleman, Roscoe Coleman, Mary Coleman Williams, Corlis Coleman, Durvis Coleman and Lillian Coleman Pope.

MRS. MAGDALENE “MAGGIE” GARRETT PRUETT, age 72, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, February 1, 2016.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, February 3, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Brian Martin and Rev. Arnold Rye officiating, with interment in Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Pruett was a native of Cadwell, a member of Liberty Baptist Church, a former waitress and a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who enjoyed rescuing and fostering animals, yard sales, gardening and working in the yard. She was daughter of the late Clyde Woodard Garrett & C.C. Garrett and was preceded in death by Several Brothers and her Faithful Pet – Zak.

Survivors: Husband of 34 years – Wayne B. MRS. ALTA MAE HARRELL FULLER, age 94, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, January 29, 2016 at Pinewood Manor Nursing Home in Hawkinsville.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, February 1, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Mr. Bobby Ryals officiating.

Mrs. Fuller was a native of Eastman, GA, a member of Rhine Baptist Church, a high school graduate and a graduate of secretarial school. She enjoyed cooking, was a homemaker and a former bookkeeper for Fuller Brothers Construction Company. She was daughter of the late Vinnie Fulgham Harrell & Norman Harrell, widow of James Fuller and was preceded in death by 2 Brothers – Charles Harrell and George “Snow” Harrell.

Survivors: 2 Sisters-in-Law – Loye Fuller Luginbill of Eastman and Grace Orin-Shaffer of St. Cloud, FL; Several Nieces and Nephews including – Roy Harrell (Linda) of Yatesville, Earl Harrell (Faye) of Cochran and Debbie Harrell of Ft. Gaines, GA; Several Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews.

ZANE SCOTT SHEPARD, the infant son of Scott Anthony Shepard & Keela Elaine Batts Warren, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, February 6, at Pinetucky Church of God, in Dublin, with Rev. Harold Thornton officiating. Zane was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Zane was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents – Ronald M. Shepard & Jane Shepard, Maternal Grandfather – Terry Wilson Batts and an Aunt – Christy Lawson.

MR. JIMMY RAY PEACOCK, age 65, of Baxley, GA, formerly of Eastman, GA, died Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia.

A Memorial visitation will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, January 30, at the residence of Rudene Wright, 976 Oak Forest Drive, Eastman. A private burial will be held at Vilula Baptist Church Cemetery in the Peacock family plot.

Mr. Peacock was a native of Eastman, of the Baptist Faith, a graduate of Dodge County High School and a retired employee of Emerson Electric Company Alco Controls Division. He enjoyed gardening and watching wrestling. He was son of the late Ruby Cadwell Peacock & Wilmer Peacock and was preceded in death by 5 Siblings – Willie Peacock, Donnie Peacock, Wesley Peacock, Robin Parker and Rhonda Brown, a Niece – Candice Wright Moore and a Nephew – Billy Peacock.

MRS. SARA ANN ALLEN GAINES, age 67, of Hawkinsville, GA, formerly of Dodge County, died Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Taylor Regional Hospital.

A memorial celebration will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, January 24, at the Gaines residence.

Mrs. Gaines was a native of Dodge County, a graduate of Brandon High School in Brandon, FL and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed trips to the beach and sewing for her grandchildren. She was daughter of the late Sarah Wynell “Nell” McCullars Allen & Harry Wesley Allen and was preceded in death by a Brother – David Allen.

MICHAEL “REK” ROWLAND, age 26, of Eastman, GA, died Thursday, January 14, 2016.

Michael was born in Hawkinsville, GA, a member of Greenlawn Baptist Church, a graduate of Dodge County High School and a former correctional officer for Dodge State Prison. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and was preceded in death by his Grandfather – Charles Robert Rowland and Step-Grandfather – W.C. Singletary.

Dorothy Nora Faulk Giddens
1938 - January 11, 2016

Dorothy Nora Faulk Giddens, age 77, of Flovilla, GA passed away Monday evening, January 11, 2016 at her residence.

She was born in Elko, GA April 1, 1938 daughter of the late Albert and Viola Faulk. She was wife of the late James Garner Giddens who passed away in 2003. Mrs. Giddens was a retired employee of the Department of Family and Children’s Services in Covington and had been employed by Butts County. She was a member of the Flovilla Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ellis and Wanda Giddens, daughter, Mary Emily Giddens, granddaughter, Alexis Rae Giddens, two sisters, Ella Mae Taylor and Vivian Albright, brother, Charles Faulk. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Faulk.

The family will receive friends Friday, January 15, 2016 at Haisten Funeral Home in Jackson.

A graveside service will be Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 2:00PM at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Eastman, GA.

BRANDON BOBBY HUTTO, age 33, of Chauncey, GA, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Coliseum Medical Center in Macon.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, January 9, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Stephen Upchurch officiating, with interment in New Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

Brandon was born in McRae, GA, a member of Chauncey Baptist Church, attended Dodge County High School and was a part time worker at Lee’s Lawnmower Repair. He was a former employee of Fred’s Inc. and Captain D’s, enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, playing video games and listening to gospel and country music. He was preceded in death by a Brother – Timothy Hutto.

MRS. MARGARET ELOISE LOWERY NOLES, age 87, of Eastman, GA, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Bryant Nursing Home in Cochran, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Friday, January 8, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, with Mr. Glen Peacock officiating, with interment in New Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Noles was a native of Greensboro, NC, a graduate of Duncan High School, in Lyman, SC, a graduate of Woffard Business School, in Spartanburg, SC and upon graduating college she moved to Eastman. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a 25 year retired customer service representative for OEMC and enjoyed tending her flowers and caring for her family. She was daughter of the late Annie Lou Weeks Lowery & James Austin Lowery, widow of Joel Chandler “J.C.” Noles and was preceded in death by a Brother – Austin Venoy Lowery.

Survivors: Son – Lynn Chandler Noles of Eastman; Grandson – Jason Chandler Noles (Kim) of Rentz; Great-Granddaughter – Kaitlyn Renee Noles; Brother – Harry Lowery of Siler City, NC; 2 Sisters-in-Law – Betty Ann Lowery of Lyman, SC and Delores Dennis of Eastman; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

JOHN HINSON, SR.
1940 - December 30, 2015

MR. JOHN HINSON, SR., age 75, of Dexter, GA, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Friday, January 1, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Julian Strum officiating, with interment in Buckhorn United Methodist Church Cemetery in Dexter.

Mr. Hinson was a native of Cochran, GA, a member of Hazlehurst Pentecostal Holiness Church, a 10 year retired employee of Eastman Cotton Mill, a retired employee of Reeves Brothers, Inc. and a greeter at the Food Depot in Dublin. He enjoyed fishing, singing and playing his guitar. He was son of the late Mattie Lou Cannon Hinson & Hoke Hinson and was preceded in death by 2 Infant Children – Thea Hinson and Janet Hinson and a Grandson – Joseph Hinson.

MRS. NADYNE PEACOCK WARD, age 83, of Eastman, GA, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Eastman Healthcare and Rehab.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Saturday, January 2, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Aubrey Corbitt officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Ward was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, of the Christian Faith, a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, cooking and her flowers. She was a graduate of Dodge County High School and of the School of Commerce in Atlanta. She was daughter of the late Sally Cannon Peacock & Elzie Peacock, widow of William Atlas “Bo” Ward, who she was married to for over 63 years, and was preceded in death by her Son – Larry N. Ward and Sister – Maxine Peacock Wing.

MR. JAMES IRVIN “J.I.” BROWN, SR., age 80, of Eastman, GA, died Sunday, December 27, 2015 at McRae Manor Nursing Home in McRae.

Mr. Brown was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Sand Grove Baptist Church, a graduate of Rhine High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired contractor for over 30 years. He was owner and operator of James I. Brown & Sons Construction. He enjoyed bird hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was son of the late Annie Williams Brown & Jess Brown, widower of Glenda Pippen Jones-Brown and was preceded in death by a Son – James “Digger” Brown, Jr., 2 Grandsons – Russ Holder and Clay Jones and 2 Brothers – John K. MR. ARTHUR RAY SHEPHERD, SR., age 72, of Eastman, GA, died Saturday, December 26, 2015 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Tuesday, December 29, at Hopewell Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Wilbanks officiating, with interment in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Shepherd, formerly of Macon, GA was of the Baptist Faith. He obtained a nursing degree from Georgia College and was a 25 year retired registered nurse for the Dodge County Hospital where he served as House Supervisor. Ray was an avid baseball fan, founder of the Bloomfield Little League Baseball Park in Macon and was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. He was son of the late Bertha Peacock Shepherd and Frank Shepherd and was preceded in death by a Son – Arthur Ray Shepherd, Jr., Sister – Pat Shepherd and 2 Brothers - Bobo Shepherd and Scotty Shepherd.

He was formerly employed at Dodge County Motor Company, Goodyear Tire Company, Huckabee Buick Cadillac, Lakeside Ford and Brannen Ford and was owner of Holts Automotive and H & H Tire Company. Albert was son of the late Willie Pearl Davis Holt & Willie Coleman Holt and was preceded in death by a Brother – C.W. Holt.

A private family memorial service was held Saturday, December 19.

Mr. Strickland was a native of Ocala, FL, of the Baptist Faith, a retired skilled electrician and carpenter for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and being outdoors. He was son of the late Olene Deese Strickland & Alvoyd Strickland and was preceded in death by 2 Siblings – Mary Ann Yeomans and Faye Dyal.

MRS. TOBY CLAIRE CHASTEEN HARMON, age 79, of Warner Robins, GA, died Monday, December 7, 2015 at her residence.

Mrs. Harmon was a native of Chauncey, GA, a member of Chauncey Baptist Church, a 1951 graduate of Chauncey High School, attended Macon Junior College and loved tending to her family and friends. She was a volunteer candy striper, hospice worker and helped with the Welcome Wagon for Robins AFB for several years. She started out as a clerk typist (GS-2) in 1958, returned to the base in 1976 and retired as a (GS-13) Personnel Staffing Specialist in 2007 at 70 years of age. She loved being a member of the officers’ wives club for many years and loved reading, gardening, water painting, cooking and ceramics. She was daughter of the late Jeanette Jones Chasteen and Troy “Sam” Chasteen and was preceded in death by her Former Husband – LTC. Frank Harmon (Retired) and Brother – Kendall Chasteen.

MRS. CARRIE WILLENE JONES SWINSON, age 90, of Cochran, GA, died Sunday, December 5, 2015 at her residence.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, December 8, at Antioch #2 Cemetery, with Mr. Freddie Dwozan officiating.

Mrs. Swinson was a native of Dodge County, a member of Antioch #2 Baptist Church, a graduate of Milan High School, valedictorian of Middle Georgia College and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She was a homemaker and during her years in Florida was active in Shalimar Baptist Church. Willene’s tender watch care showed itself very early toward siblings, in addition to a vivacious and sweetly mischievous side. Despite a spare frame and occasionally severe health challenges, she was every inch the devoted military wife, gracing and gladdening homes in far-flung parts of Asia and even unfamiliar snow of Massachusetts. She evacuated their four children from Taiwan in 1958, as service personnel remained on crisis watch. This supportive poise continued as children and grandchildren went on to serve their country around the world. In love with the music and dance of her day, she also enjoyed shopping and spending time with family. She was daughter of the late Sarah Martha Hardy Jones & John “R.C.” Jones, Sr., widow of Maj. Jim I. Swinson, Sr. (Retired) and was preceded in death by a Son – Jimmy Swinson, Jr, Great-Grandson – Tyler Williams and 8 Siblings – Martha Kelly, Jackye Fuller, Charlton Jones, Betty Taylor, Kendell Jones, Wendell Jones, Jane Evelyn Jones and Wilburn Carroll Jones.

Mr. Woodham requested no funeral or memorial services. He requested his ashes along with his wife Joy’s ashes to be scattered on their family farm in Brinson, GA.

Mr. Woodham was born in Hartford, AL on December 10, 1926, served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1949 and was a graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in Business. He was of the Baptist Faith and retired as the Accounting Manager with U.S. Gypsum in Chicago, IL. He was son of the late Ides Stewart Woodham & Robert Bentley Woodham, widower of Joy Boswell Woodham and was preceded in death by 2 Grandchildren – Jeff Woodham and Brittany Woodham.

MR. HERSCHEL EARTHERN BRACK, age 81, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Brack was a native of Dodge County, a deacon of Greenlawn Baptist Church and a retired butcher for Robins AFB. He enjoyed farming, raising livestock, fishing and spending time with his family. He was son of the late Nellie Redding Brack & Farris Earthern Brack and was preceded in death by 5 Siblings – Effie Bennett, Lois Morris, Eschol Brack, Helen Widener and Hudson Brack.

MR. LAWRENCE WAYNE DISHLER, age 84, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, November 23, 2015 at Serenity Place Hospice in Dublin.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Dishler was a native of Rochester, PA, a retired truck driver for Allied Farm Equipment, a dedicated husband and father, loved sports and wrote numerous poems and songs. He was son of the late Lucy Hupp Dishler & Henry John Dishler, widower of Sarah Louise Pander Dishler and was preceded in death by a Son – Lawrence “Larry” Allen Dishler and 4 Siblings – Julia Finkenbinder, Margaret Tooch, Charles Dishler and Leroy Dishler.

ROY HOSFORD
1917 - November 18, 2015

MR. ROY COLUMBUS HOSFORD, 97, of Clayton, and recently Dublin, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015.

A memorial service will be held 3:00PM Sunday, November 22 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Chester, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.

Born on a farm 3 miles outside of Yonkers, Georgia on December 9, 1917, he was the son of the late Columbus B. and Annie Mae (Belflower) Hosford. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary E., and a brother, Ralph F.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Ann (Hamilton) Hosford, whom he married in 1948; daughter, Donna Milam Roberson and her husband Ronald of Clarkesville; son, Wayne B. Hosford of West Palm Beach, Florida; grandson, David Milam, and great grandson, Rocker of Habersham County; brothers Carl D. Hosford (Joy Daniel); James O. Hosford (Kemper Holt), sister Imogene Mullis (Cletus J.), all of Chester.

Roy graduated Chester High School in 1937, and joined FDR's CCC initiative in Washington State in 1939. He proudly served his country in the US Army throughout WW2 from 1941-45, and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star, EAME Campaign Medal, American Defense Service and Good Conduct medals for tours in Iran and India. Following his departure from the Army with the rank of First Sergeant (Medical Division), he went to Miami, Florida, where he continued pursuit of public service by becoming a police officer, and eventually a plain-clothes detective with the City of Miami Police Department until retiring as Lieutenant in 1968. Working as a zoning-enforcement officer for then-called Dade County, Florida until 1979, when he retired with his wife to the mountains of north Georgia, residing near Clayton, for 32 years where he was active in local and national party politics, until moving to be near family for a transition to assisted living in Dublin. Roy was known for his kindness and pleasure in helping others, upholding the law, whether civil or spiritual, and did so quietly and with stalwart grace. A truly selfless man, he will be ever missed, yet celebrated for his life and great character. His spiritual faith was unshakable, and he taught Men's Sunday School for years at his home church of Clayton Baptist.

MRS. LORELL KEEN DOWDY CALHOUN, age 84, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the Coliseum Medical Center in Macon.

Mrs. Calhoun was a native of Abbeville, GA, a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, a graduate of Wilcox County High School and a homemaker. She was daughter of the late Willie Elijah Anderson Keen & Joseph “Joe” Keen, widow of Weldon H. Dowdy and William George “Billy” Calhoun and was preceded in death by 2 Sons – James Thomas Dowdy and Michael Dowdy, Daughter – Faye Bohannon, Son-in-Law – Scott Anderson, 2 Grandsons – Tim Weston and Jason Weston, 2 Great-Grandsons – Dustin Simmons and Robert Chick, Jr. and 10 Siblings.

He was a member and deacon of Abbeville First Baptist Church, a retired CSX Railroad employee for over 40 years and enjoyed fishing and working. He was son of the late Mary Ida Barron Bowen & Hoyt A. Bowen, widower of Wylene Pearl Burnham Bowen and was preceded in death by 4 Siblings – Steve Bowen, Evelyn Dowdy, Dorothy Nelson and Mildred McRae.

Mrs. Parkerson was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a graduate of Dodge County High School, member of Lovely Grove Baptist Church and a retail clerk for B.C. Moore’s for over 20 years. She enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting and spending time with her family. She was daughter of the late Anna Asbell May & Gus May, widow of H.M. MR. GARY LYNN WILLIAMSON, age 55, of Rhine, GA, died Friday, October 30, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Williamson was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member and deacon of Rhine Baptist Church, a 1979 graduate of Dodge County High School and studied electrical training at Ben Hill Irwin Technical School. He was a former trim room worker at Raydon Wear for many years, was a van driver for over 20 years for the Dodge Transit and loved his job at Dodge Transit. He enjoyed cross stitching, cooking and fill-in puzzles. Lynn was preceded in death by his Father – John Clark Williamson.

MRS. EVA MARIE ROGERS PITTMAN, age 79, of Eastman, GA, died Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00PM Saturday, October 31, at the Eastman First United Methodist Church, with Dr. Rick Mitchell and Rev. James Spires officiating, with interment in Orphans Cemetery, with Rev. Sammy Young officiating.

Mrs. Pittman was a native of Bleckley County, a member of Eastman First United Methodist Church , worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Dodge County High School for over 8 years and was retired from the Dodge County Hospital for over 40 years and was a member of the Georgia School Nurses Association. She was a 40 year volunteer leader for the Dodge County 4-H Club, past president of Georgia 4-H Leaders Association of Georgia, was made a honorary 4-H Master in 1967 and received a lifetime achievement award from the State of Georgia in 2007. She was a former part time CNA instructor at Ben Hill Irwin Tech, a master caterer and floral designer for weddings and events for over 35 years, owner of A Touch Of Class Catering and was a past First Lady of the Georgia Floral Association. She was a former member of the Eastman Downtown Development Authority and was a recipient of the Georgia’s Legacy Older Woman Award. Eva was daughter of the late Mildred Hall Rogers & James Melvin Rogers and was preceded in death by her Son – James R. Pittman, Two Sisters – Faye R. Spires and Tynie R. Gibbs, Brother – Marvin Rogers, Three Half-Sisters and Four Half-Brothers.

Survivors: Two Daughters – Myra Davis (Johnny) of Rochelle and Elaine Pittman (Randy Durden) of Eastman; Five Grandchildren – Brent Davis (Kaye), Britni Martinez (Jason), Blayre Durden (Tom Sheffield), Brooks Gibbs (Eric) and William Durden (Brittney); Eight Great-Grandchildren – Ella Grace, Lizzy Rae, Cotton, Gunner, Will, Brooklyn, Brett and Landon; Numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

MR. KENT CARRELL “CASEY” JENKINS, age 58, of Hawkinsville, GA, formerly of Jessup, GA, died Monday, October 26, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Jenkins was a native of Callahan, FL, of the Baptist Faith and a retired landscaper. He enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family. MR. LEONARD JACK KING, age 70, of Rhine, GA, died Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

Mr. King was a native of Oxford, MI, a 1963 graduate of Oxford High School, a retired contractor for Polk County, FL and attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He served as a maintenance county director for Polk County, FL, was an avid deer hunter and fisherman and enjoyed golfing. He was son of the late Maxine Osborne King & Gerald King and was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Sally Foster King.

MR. ROBERT LEWIS NOLES , age 82, of Eastman, GA, died Thursday, October 22, 2015 at his residence in Dodge County.

Mr. Noles was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and a retired farmer. He was instrumental in helping establish Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department. He was son of the late Inez Lewis Noles & Joel Henry Noles, widower of Josephine Coleman Noles and was preceded in death by a Brother – J.C. Noles.

MR. KENNETH ROLAND GROGAN, age 85, of Helena, GA, died Saturday, October 17, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Grogan was a native of Atlanta, but has lived in Helena since 1984. He was son of the late Eva Crouch Grogan & Nash B. Grogan and widower of Hannah Phelps Grogan.

She was a 1963 graduate of Dodge County High School and later worked as a teller at the Bank of Eastman for several years. Janice was a retired mortgage underwriter for Bank of America for over 35 years and enjoyed interior design, shopping and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her Father – Jessie Daniel McCranie and Nephew – Jamieson Chad McCranie.

He was a 1976 graduate of Dodge County High School and enjoyed working, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Kenny was an avid fan of Alabama Crimson Tide Football. Mr. Strickland was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and a 34 year retired bridge construction supervisor for the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a family man, enjoyed playing guitar & singing, a former member of the Dodge County Playboys Music Group and was former employee of Quality Saw Works for over 13 years. Mr. Strickland was son of the late Willie Claire Williamson Strickland & William Hasel Strickland, widower of Jean Bohannon Strickland and was preceded in death by 2 Siblings – Thomas Strickland and Mary “Tig” Reynolds.

MRS. ADA ANNETTE BASS TOWNS, age 78, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, August 28, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. James Turpen and Rev. Daniel Cook officiating, with interment in Palms Cemetery in Hazlehurst.

Mrs. Towns was a native of Wheeler County, a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Alamo, and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a former admissions clerk at Dodge County Hospital, for over 11 years, and enjoyed flowers, cooking, baseball and watching her son race. She was daughter of the late Ida Cox Bass & Franklin Lee Bass and was preceded in death by 7 Siblings – Samuel Bass, Cecil Bass, Jessie Lee Bass, Max Bass, Jewel Thompson, Rachel Cravey and Tasker Dixon.

1936 - August 22, 2015

MR. JOHN DANIEL “ DAN” CRAVEY, age 79, of Milan, GA, died Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Monday, August 24, at Southerland Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wayne Cobb officiating, with interment in Milan City Cemetery, with Rev. James Dupree officiating.

Mr. Cravey was a lifelong resident of Milan, a member and deacon of Siloam Baptist Church and a 32 year retired crane operator for Robins AFB. He drove the church bus for many years, loved hunting, fishing and giving chewing gum to the young children of the church, who affectionately called him the “chewing gum man”. He was son of the late Julia Hart Cravey & Gus Cravey and was preceded in death by a Sister – Angela Bohannon and 2 Brothers – Hal Cravey and Rodney Cravey.

MR. BILLY RAY “BILL” MOORE, age 79, of Eastman, GA, died Thursday, August 20, 2015 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, August 23, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Daniel Cook and Rev. Craig Minor officiating, with interment in Pleasant Olive Cemetery in Chester.

Mr. Moore was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, of the Baptist Faith and a retired electronic repairman for Robins AFB. He was a former Reeves Brothers Inc. employee and the owner and operator of Moore’s TVRO Service. Bill was son of the late Thelma Louise Daniel Moore & Robert Lee Moore, widower of Marianna Tripp Moore and was preceded in death by a Sister – Betty Lott and 3 Brothers – Bobby L. Moore, Ronald “Duck” Moore and David L. Moore.

MRS. DEBORAH JEANNE “DEBBIE” KING SNOW, age 62, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

Mrs. Snow was born in Macon, GA, of the Catholic Faith, a seamstress and a longtime caregiver to her mother. She was a former employee at Emily’s Cleaners and enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends. She was daughter of the late Frances Noles King & William A. King, Sr.

MR. CHARLES OSBORNE “CHARLIE” CONNER, age 86, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, August 17, 2015 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, August 20, at Fair Haven Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Lewis Miller and Rev. Royce McClelland officiating.

Mr. Conner was born in Rhine, GA, a member of Fair Haven Baptist Church and a retired fork lift operator for Gory Associated Industries, Inc. He moved to Miami, FL and on to Boca Raton, FL in 1957 before returning to Dodge County in 1991. He was son of the late Muriel Tyler Fulbright & Cecil Hartley Conner, widower of Katie Lee Barrow Conner and was preceded in death by a 2 Daughters – Brenda Lee Conner and Kathleen Hanvey, Son – Robert Adams, Grandson – Michael Hartley Conner and Brother – Winfred Conner.

Mrs. Sheffield was born in Monticello, GA, a member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Houston County and a homemaker. She was daughter of the late Dorothy Louise Burnette Jordan & Clarence C. Jordan, Sr. and was preceded in death by a Nephew – Jeremy Calvin White.

He was a 33 year retired public affairs officer for the Air Armament Division at Eglin AFB in Fort Walton Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his Wife - Mary F. Mr. Beck was born in Dodge County, a member of Bay Springs Freewill Baptist Church of Plainfield, a 1974 graduate of Dodge County High School and a retired electrician for BE & K Electric. He was son of the late Florene Allen Beck & Wilbur Theo Beck and was preceded in death by a Sister – Sarah Gail Beck Parkerson.

Survivors: Daughter – Shannon Beck of Eastman; Granddaughter – Joy Duron; Brother – Dale Allen Beck of Eastman; Brother-in-Law – Lonnie Parkerson of Eastman; 4 Nieces – Gina Beck Crenshaw of Chester, Trina Beck of Plainfield, Brandi Hardin (Rusty) and Cindy Barrentine (Tommy) both of Eastman; Several Great-Nieces and Nephews.

Marion "Pete" Davis Silver
1939 - September 19, 2014

Mrs. Marion Davis Silver, affectionately known as "Pete", died on Friday, September 19, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. Pete was born in RFD DeSoto on February 20, 1939. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Addison Davis, Jr. and Maidee Conley Davis Walker; and by her husband, Stanley Silver.

Pete graduated from Americus High School and Georgia Southwestern College. She was an outstanding student who loved sports and dancing. She was honored as a Superlative in her Senior class. In addition to being a cheerleader at Americus High School, Pete loved playing basketball, both in high school and college. At Georgia Southwestern, Pete was elected co-Captain of the basketball team in 1958 and 1959, and won numerous medals including, All Tournament and Sportsmanship Awards. Pete was also elected a "GSW Favorite" and Sweetheart of Kappa Sigma Phi Fraternity. In 2002, Pete was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at Georgia Southwestern State University.

Following college, Pete moved to Atlanta and worked as a Reservations Agent for Delta Air Lines; she later moved to New York City where she became a Supervisor in New York Reservations, acted as an Administrative Assistant for the Vice President for Delta and went on to become a Chief Supervisor. Pete traveled extensively to Europe, Asia and The Middle East.

Returning to Americus in 1990, Pete became very involved in community organizations.

She first became a GSW Foundation Board Member, served as Secretary of the GSW Foundation, Finance Committee, Executive Committee, Chairman of Compensation Committee and Sumter County Initiative Board Member. Pete was a member of Habitat for Humanity and worked along with former President, Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter building one of the first homes here in Americus. She was involved with raising funds for the Windsor Hotel, the Rylander Theater and for the construction of the new Americus Hospital following the tornado.

Pete was always very generous and passionate about her family, her friends and her precious pets.

Pete is survived by her brother Joseph Addison (Bubber) Davis, III and his wife, Wyndy of Leesburg; her sister Shirley Davis Mattingly and her husband, Don of Clearwater, FL, son Clifford Silver and daughter Denise Silver Leinhardt, (husband Julian) and children Carli and Samantha, of Boca Raton, Fla. She is survived by many loved nieces and nephews including Ann Marie Hatcher. She is survived by her long-time caregiver, Mary Louise Singleton of Americus who was very special to Pete.

A Memorial service will be held on Monday, September. 22, 2014, at Aldridge Funeral Services, 612 Rees Park, Americus, GA at 6:00pm.

In lieu to flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Phoebe Sumter Hospice P.O. Box 1434 Americus, Ga. 31709. Burial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus. The Hilliard Brothers, from Rhine, GA, are musicians for the funeral service.

Warren was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Eastman First Baptist Church and Owner & Operator of Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home. He was a member of the Eastman Lions Club, Georgia Funeral Directors Association and Member of the Board of Directors of Citizens Bank and Trust. He was preceded in death by his Father - Warren E. Southerland, Sr.
