BOB STRICKLAND
1941 - August 25, 2015

MR. WILLIAM ROBERT “BOB” STRICKLAND, age 74, of Milan, GA, died Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, August 27, at Hopewell Baptist Church, with Mr. Bobby Ryals officiating, with interment in Hopewell Cemetery in Rhine.

Mr. Strickland was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and a 34 year retired bridge construction supervisor for the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a family man, enjoyed playing guitar & singing, a former member of the Dodge County Playboys Music Group and was former employee of Quality Saw Works for over 13 years. Mr. Strickland was son of the late Willie Claire Williamson Strickland & William Hasel Strickland, widower of Jean Bohannon Strickland and was preceded in death by 2 Siblings – Thomas Strickland and Mary “Tig” Reynolds.

Survivors: 2 Daughters – Bobbie S. Lupin (Jack) of Eastman and Audrey S. Helms (David) of Milan; 2 Sons – Tony Strickland (Kerri) of Abbeville and Clark Strickland of Milan; 8 Grandchildren – Corey Newman, April Hayes Villa (Jose), Brian Hayes (Catherine), Darla Helms Ashley (Bryan), Rebecca Strickland, Zeke Lupin, Hannah Lupin and Daniel Strickland; 5 Great-Grandchildren – Brogen, Amberlyn, Mylee, Anslee and Easton; 3 Sisters – Verlie Peacock (Benny), Clara Sawyer and May Belle Strickland all of Eastman; 3 Brothers – John F. Strickland of Rhine, Danny Strickland (Donna) of Ellijay and Charlie Strickland (Ann) of Dawsonville; Uncle – Charles Williamson of Rhine; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

1937 - August 25, 2015

MRS. ADA ANNETTE BASS TOWNS, age 78, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, August 28, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. James Turpen and Rev. Daniel Cook officiating, with interment in Palms Cemetery in Hazlehurst.

Mrs. Towns was a native of Wheeler County, a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Alamo, and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a former admissions clerk at Dodge County Hospital, for over 11 years, and enjoyed flowers, cooking, baseball and watching her son race. She was daughter of the late Ida Cox Bass & Franklin Lee Bass and was preceded in death by 7 Siblings – Samuel Bass, Cecil Bass, Jessie Lee Bass, Max Bass, Jewel Thompson, Rachel Cravey and Tasker Dixon.

Survivors: Husband of 53 years – Eugene Towns of Eastman; Daughter – Rhonda Towns Evans (Chris) of Dalton; Son – Matt Towns of Eastman; 2 Step-Sons – Terry Towns (Janie) and Brian Towns (Gina) both of Flint, MI; 3 Grandchildren – Whitney Dixon (Billy), Marlee Stevenson (Graham) and Kiptyn Evans; 2 Great-Grandchildren – Carter Dixon and Scarlett Dixon; Sister – Maude Bass Mitchell of Alamo; Several Nieces and Nephews.

DAN CRAVEY
1936 - August 22, 2015

MR. JOHN DANIEL “ DAN” CRAVEY, age 79, of Milan, GA, died Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Monday, August 24, at Southerland Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wayne Cobb officiating, with interment in Milan City Cemetery, with Rev. James Dupree officiating.

Mr. Cravey was a lifelong resident of Milan, a member and deacon of Siloam Baptist Church and a 32 year retired crane operator for Robins AFB. He drove the church bus for many years, loved hunting, fishing and giving chewing gum to the young children of the church, who affectionately called him the “chewing gum man”. He was son of the late Julia Hart Cravey & Gus Cravey and was preceded in death by a Sister – Angela Bohannon and 2 Brothers – Hal Cravey and Rodney Cravey.

Survivors: Wife – Betty Nell Sheffield Cravey of Milan; Daughter – Mary Ann C. Mikell (Craig) of Erick, OK; 3 Sons – Donnie Cravey (Debbie) of Cordele, Tommy Cravey of Milan and Johnny “Chubbie” Cravey (Debby) of Alamo; 5 Sisters – Jewel Allday (René) of Blackshear, Suellen Black of Eastman, Betty Eckles of Macon, Latann Buchanan of Plains and Diane Fordham of Helena; Sister-in-Law – Bertha Cravey of Macon; 12 Grandchildren – Danny Cravey (Tonia), Jonathon Cravey (Shala), Zachary Cravey, Caitlyn Farra (Kyle), Jennifer Cravey, Kyle Cravey, Lauren Cravey, Tiffany Batchelor, Kimberly Lewis (D.J.), Brandi Johnson (Shannon), Amber Poole (Andy) and Adam Cravey; 15 Great-Grandchildren; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

MR. BILLY RAY “BILL” MOORE, age 79, of Eastman, GA, died Thursday, August 20, 2015 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, August 23, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Daniel Cook and Rev. Craig Minor officiating, with interment in Pleasant Olive Cemetery in Chester.

Mr. Moore was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, of the Baptist Faith and a retired electronic repairman for Robins AFB. He was a former Reeves Brothers Inc. employee and the owner and operator of Moore’s TVRO Service. Bill was son of the late Thelma Louise Daniel Moore & Robert Lee Moore, widower of Marianna Tripp Moore and was preceded in death by a Sister – Betty Lott and 3 Brothers – Bobby L. Moore, Ronald “Duck” Moore and David L. Moore.

Survivors: 2 Daughters – Donna M. Brewer (Jeff) of Eastman and Karen L. Evans of Chauncey; Son – Tim R. MRS. DEBORAH JEANNE “DEBBIE” KING SNOW, age 62, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

A Memorial Visitation for friends and family will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, August 22, at her residence, 240 Ward Street, Eastman.

Mrs. Snow was born in Macon, GA, of the Catholic Faith, a seamstress and a longtime caregiver to her mother. She was a former employee at Emily’s Cleaners and enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends. She was daughter of the late Frances Noles King & William A. King, Sr.

Survivors: 2 Daughters – Jessica Weidner of Reynolds and Tatia McClintock of Mystic, Connecticut; Brother – Billy King of Eastman; 4 Grandchildren – Will York, Audrey York, Brendon Weidner and Alex Weidner; Niece & Nephew – Cassandra King and Shawn King, both of New York.

CHARLIE CONNER
1929 - August 17, 2015

MR. CHARLES OSBORNE “CHARLIE” CONNER, age 86, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, August 17, 2015 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, August 20, at Fair Haven Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Lewis Miller and Rev. Royce McClelland officiating.

Mr. Conner was born in Rhine, GA, a member of Fair Haven Baptist Church and a retired fork lift operator for Gory Associated Industries, Inc. He moved to Miami, FL and on to Boca Raton, FL in 1957 before returning to Dodge County in 1991. He was son of the late Muriel Tyler Fulbright & Cecil Hartley Conner, widower of Katie Lee Barrow Conner and was preceded in death by a 2 Daughters – Brenda Lee Conner and Kathleen Hanvey, Son – Robert Adams, Grandson – Michael Hartley Conner and Brother – Winfred Conner.

MRS. DOROTHY CHRISTINE JORDAN SHEFFIELD, age 53, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, August 17, 2015 at Eastman Healthcare & Rehab.

Mrs. Sheffield was born in Monticello, GA, a member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Houston County and a homemaker. She was daughter of the late Dorothy Louise Burnette Jordan & Clarence C. Jordan, Sr. and was preceded in death by a Nephew – Jeremy Calvin White.

MR. JIM IRA SWINSON, JR., age 69, of Auburn, WA, died Saturday, May 30, 2015.

Mr. Swinson was a born in McRae, GA, of the Baptist Faith, a 1967 graduate of the Georgia Academy for the Blind in Macon and a graduate of the University of Georgia with a BA in Journalism. He was a 33 year retired public affairs officer for the Air Armament Division at Eglin AFB in Fort Walton Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his Wife - Mary F. Kirby Swinson and Father – Jim Ira Swinson, Sr.

Mr. Beck was born in Dodge County, a member of Bay Springs Freewill Baptist Church of Plainfield, a 1974 graduate of Dodge County High School and a retired electrician for BE & K Electric. He was son of the late Florene Allen Beck & Wilbur Theo Beck and was preceded in death by a Sister – Sarah Gail Beck Parkerson.

MRS. BRENDA MULLIS GUEVARA, age 57, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

Mrs. Guevara was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, of the Baptist Faith, a graduate of Dodge County High School and a homemaker. She enjoyed shopping, yard sales, fishing and spending time with her family. She was daughter of the late Bose Crosby Mullis and was preceded in death by 2 Brothers – Winfred C. Mullis and Stacey O. Mullis.

MRS. CLARA EDNA DUNN GIDDENS, age 73, of Eastman, GA, died Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Dodge County Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, August 2, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Kevin Morrison officiating, with interment in Giddens-Harrell Cemetery in Eastman.

Mrs. Giddens was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a dedicated member of Rock Branch Baptist Church, a graduate of Dodge County High School and was a 35 year retired employee of Stuckey’s, Inc. and Standard Candy Company. She enjoyed music gatherings, playing the piano and was a loving mother and grandmother. She was daughter of the late Virginia Dunagan Dunn & Lewis Dunn and was preceded in death by a Brother – Bobby Dunn and Brother-in-Law – James Brewer.

MR. TONY ALLIN LANN, age 71, of Rhine, GA, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at McRae Manor Nursing Home in McRae.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, July 30, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Bill Jones and Rev. Randy Conley officiating, with interment in Bay Springs Cemetery in Rhine.

Mr. Lann was born in Pascagoula, MS, of the Christian Faith, a 1963 graduate of Milan High School and a retired conductor for CSX Railroad. He was a chairman of the board for Bridges of Hope, where he was also a longtime and dedicated volunteer. He enjoyed fishing and spending time on the river. Tony was son of the late Elton Lee Lann and was preceded in death by 2 Brothers – LeRoy Lann and Ronald Lann.

Survivors: Wife of 50 years – Jane Dowdy Lann of Rhine; 2 Sons – Alan Lann of Eastman and Jamie Lann (Casey) of Rhine; 3 Grandchildren – Dylan, Paige and Asher; Mother – Ludie Downs Lann of Milan; 2 Sisters – Libby Ann Lann of Saint Simmons and Linda Allen of Rhine; 3 Brothers – Wendell “Winky” Lann (Connie), Phillip Lann (Kay) and Lionel Lann all of Milan; 3 Sisters-in-Law – Jannette Lann, Durlene Williams of Rhine and Sandra Harrell of McRae; Brother-in-Law – Jimmy Dowdy of Rhine; Aunt – Ruby Lindley Sheffield of Alabama; Several Nieces and Nephews.

MR. JOSEPH WAYNE SELPH, age 67, of Eastman, GA, died Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, July 20, at Greenlawn Baptist Church, with Rev. Dwaine Dunn and Rev. Mike Grenade officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, with Rev. Chris Dotson and Mr. Patrick Barnett officiating.

Mr. Selph was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a 1965 graduate of Telfair County High School, a member of Greenlawn Baptist Church, where he served as Training Union Director for over 10 years and a retired employee for the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a longtime volunteer of the Christian Life Center, a volunteer for over 23 years for the Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief Region 9 and enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and working for his church. Wayne was son of the late Carolyn Moore Selph & Joseph Henry “Joe” Selph and was preceded in death by a Brother – Don Selph.

MR. THOMAS FRANKLIN SHEFFIELD, age 71, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, July 17, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Brian Martin and Rev. Ricky Gilmore officiating, with interment in Sheffield Family Cemetery in Eastman.

Mr. Sheffield was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Liberty Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a retired tree surgeon for Sheffield Tree Service. He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was son of the late Myrtice Ouida Lee Smith & George Frank Sheffield, widower of Frances Smith Sheffield and was preceded in death by 3 Siblings – Bobby Sheffield, David Sheffield and Carol Carpenter.

MR. KENNETH GIDDENS, age 56, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, July 13, 2015 in Cochran.

Mr. Giddens was born in Hawkinsville, GA, of the Baptist Faith and a former industrial painter for Zeigler Industries, Inc. He enjoyed fishing, classic country music and spending time with his grandchildren. He was son of the late Myrtice Fountain Giddens & Monroe “J.B.” Giddens and was preceded in death by a Son – Kenneth Dwayne Giddens, Sister – Brenda Sue Davis, Brother – Larry Giddens and Brother-in-Law – Bobby White.

MR. ROBERT JOHN “R.J.” PRUITT, age 85, of Milan, GA, died Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Bleckley Memorial Hospital in Cochran.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 13, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Mike Grenade officiating.

Mr. Pruitt was a native of Dodge County, a member of El Bethel Baptist Church and a 20 year retired paratrooper for the U.S. Army. He served in the Korean War and with the 82nd Airborne in Vietnam. Bob was a Christian Life Center volunteer, son of the late Alver Ross Pruett & Raiford Pruett and was preceded in death by 2 Sisters – Mildred P. Giddens and Linda P. Coley and 3 Brothers – Lester Pruett, Harold Pruett and Wendell Pruett.

MRS. ZESTA YANCEY HILILARD, age 101, of Rhine, GA, died Friday, July 10, 2015 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00PM Sunday, July 12, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Tim Moorhouse and Rev. John Mobley officiating, with interment in Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Hilliard was a lifelong native of Dodge County, oldest member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and a 35 year retired educator with the Dodge County School System. She loved nature and the outdoors, which fostered her fondness for teaching science. She was a member of the retired teachers association, enjoyed painting, and taught Sunday School at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and served as church treasurer. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother and was the daughter of the late Kizzie Pitts Yancey and Campbell Daniel Yancey. She was preceded in death by her Husband – Talmadge D. “Tal” Hilliard; 6 Sisters – Emma Katherine Yawn, Lessie Law, Allene Wilson, Mae Keene, Lizzie Reynolds, and Lula Ann Campbell; 4 Brothers – William Yancey, Lewis “Tuck” Yancey, John Yancey, and Morris Yancey.

Mrs. Coleman was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Eastman First Baptist Church, a graduate of Dodge County High School and a retired personal care assistant. She was a former employee at the Dodge County Hospital Lab and she enjoyed reading, church activities and spending time with family and friends. She also loved animals, babies, the elderly and always The Beatles. Mrs. Coleman was daughter of the late Marinelle Lee Coleman & Whitten Coleman.

She was daughter of the late Mary Phillips Williams & Flornor Williams, widow of Dallas Rogers and was preceded in death by 4 Siblings – Bennie Williams, Verna Lee Jones, Wylene Lampkin and Clara Mae Lewis.

He was also a former employee of Swymer Trucking Company and the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was the son of the late Edna Davis Cravey and James Carl Cravey, Sr.

Mr. Jones was a native of Chester, GA, a member of Eastman First Baptist Church, a graduate of Southern Tech with a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was an engineer for Bellsouth, Inc. for over 30 years in Snellville, GA, and was awarded a couple of patents related to telecommunications. He was son of the late Etta Rawlins Jones & William B. Jones, Widower of Claire Smyly Martin Jones, who he had a genuine love for, and was preceded in death by a Sister – Emily Brown and 2 Brothers – Paul Edwin “Buzzy” Jones and Charles Jones.

He enjoyed fishing and wood working. He was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and was a loving provider for his family. John K. was son of the late Annie Williams Brown & Jess Brown and was preceded in death by a Brother – Larry Wayne Brown.

MR. SCOTTY EUGENE SPIRES, age 45, of Ellaville, GA, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Phoebe Putney Hospital in Albany, GA.

Mr. Spires was a member of Overflow Worship Center in Ellaville, a 1988 graduate of Dodge County High School and a truck driver for over 20 years, for West Logging and Husqvarna. He was an accomplished guitarist, bass player and singer. Scotty enjoyed playing with his band Rampage, The Calli Anna Band and The Brandon Wheeler Band. He was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast, a great cook and enjoyed spending time with his wife and children. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents – Martha & Pip Hilliard and Ed & Ruby Spires and an Uncle – Willie F. Spires.

She was a former employee of Wal-Mart in St. Marys, GA, a former volunteer at the Christian Goodwill and enjoyed playing the piano, going to church, spending time with her family and animals. MRS. ALBERTA DOWDY ROSS, age 92, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, June 5, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, June 8, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Larry Thompson and Rev. Tim Brown officiating, with interment in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Ross was a lifelong resident of Dodge County and a member and former Training Union Director of Friendship Baptist Church, but had been attending Vilula Baptist Church for several years. She was a homemaker, enjoyed gardening, spending time with her children and grandchildren and cooking Sunday meals. She spent many years and countless hours with her Husband, Son and Grandchildren working and managing the Ross family farm. Mrs. Ross was daughter of the late Ruby Dowdy & Hez Dowdy, widow of George Wallace Ross and was preceded in death by a Son – Thomas Ross and 2 Brothers – Walter Dowdy and Hugh Dowdy.

Survivors: Son – Don Ross (Kay) of Eastman; 3 Grandchildren – Adam Ross (Gwen) of San Antonio, TX, Wes Ross (Jessica) and Paige R. MR. JACK LAMAR WHITE, age 53, of Eastman, GA, died Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Dodge County Hospital.

A private family graveside service will be held at 4:00PM Saturday, June 6, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cochran, with Rev. Myron Parkerson officiating.

Mr. White was a native of Hawkinsville, GA, a member of Chester Church of God and a former carpenter. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his wife and children. He was preceded in death by his Fathers – Chester White and Marshall Harrell, Sr.

MR. EMORY GREGORY SPEARS, age 57, of Hawkinsville, GA, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Taylor Regional Hospital.

Mr. Spears was a native of Dodge County, a member of First United Methodist Church in Hawkinsville and a retired employee of Taylor Regional Hospital. He was a graduate of Baker Academy and enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening. He was preceded in death by his Father – Charles Walden Spears.

MRS. ZELMA KNIGHT SMITH, age 83, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, May 29, 2015 at her residence.

Mrs. Smith was a native of Milan, GA, a graduate of Milan High School, a charter member of Grace Baptist Church and a 30 year retired telephone operator for Bellsouth. She was a longtime Pink Lady for Dodge County Hospital and was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was daughter of the late Nancy Margaret Thompson Knight & Dave Knight and was preceded in death by her Brother – David Jackson Knight.

MRS. MARY MARCHMAN COVINGTON, age 91, of Eastman, GA, died Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Southland Nursing Home in Dublin.

Mrs. Covington was born in Milan, GA, a member of Zebulon Baptist Church and a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing, bird watching, tending her flowers and spending time with her family. She was daughter of the late Nealy Durden Marchman & John Robert Marchman, widow of Oliver Covington and was preceded in death by 5 Siblings – Henry Marchman, Homer Marchman, Fred Marchman, Dessie Hicks and Mildred Rich.

MRS. FRANCES LEE NOLES KING, age 80, of Eastman, GA, died Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Regency Hospital in Macon.

Mrs. King was a native of Dodge County and a professional VIP waitress for many years at The Tower in New York City, where she was a waitress to many celebrities in the 1970s. She was of the Baptist Faith and was very proud of becoming a bible school teacher at the age of 15 and being able to recite numerous bible verses. She was daughter of the late Almier Patisaul Noles & Albert Lee Noles, widow of William A. King, Sr. and was preceded in death by an Infant Son – Michael David King, Granddaughter – Jennifer King and 3 Brothers – Willie Hamp Noles, Kenneth Ray Noles and Marvin Noles.

Mrs. Walker was daughter of the late Estelle Johnson Mathews & Will Mathews, widow of Willie Mac Walker and was preceded in death by a Son – Edwin Mathew “Math” Walker and 3 Siblings – Archie Mathews, Julia Mae Harwell and Herman Mathews.

MR. SONNIE IVAN CLYDE BARLOW, age 59, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00PM Monday, May 18, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Mr. Eddie Barlow and Mr. Ronald Ogden officiating.

Mr. Barlow was a native of Dodge County and a 23-year retired Lieutenant for the U.S. Navy, where he served as a Saturation Diving Officer. He was an avid coon hunter and dog breeder, who hunted professional coon hounds in competition. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, and traveling. He competed in triathlons, marathons and boxing. He was a gifted musician and singer, who played several stringed instruments. Sonnie was son of the late Evelyn Westbrook Barlow & John T. Barlow, Sr. and was preceded in death by 2 Brothers – Alton Barlow (and wife Jean), J.T. Barlow, Jr. and an infant Sister - Sarah Linda Barlow.

Mr. Roland was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, of the Baptist Faith, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a retired civil service employee of Robins AFB. He worked for Armstrong, Inc. for several years, was a member of the Dodge County Recreation Board for several years and enjoyed coaching at the Dodge County Recreation Department. He was son of the late Josephine Rogers Rowland & Earnest Alvin Rowland and was preceded in death by a Sister – Rita Tripp and Brother – Roger Rowland.

Amy was a devoted wife, a loving mother and enjoyed spending time with family and friends and helping others.

MRS. FRANCES FINDLEY HADDEN PARKERSON, age 95, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, May 7, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Mr. Jerry Findley officiating, with interment in Magnolia Park Cemetery in Warner Robins, GA, at 4:00PM.

Mrs. Parkerson was born in Emanuel County, GA, a member of Eastman First Baptist Church and a retired civil service employee of Robins AFB. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society in Statesboro. She was daughter of the late Mary Barbee Findley & J.M. Findley and was preceded in death by her Husbands – John B. Hadden and Charles D. Parkerson. Frances was the last survivor of 17 siblings.

MRS. JUNE K. MULLIS , age 80, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, May 1, 2015 at her residence.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, May 3, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. John Mobley and Rev. Gerald Conley officiating, with interment in New Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Mullis was a native of Homerville, GA, a member of Eastside Baptist Church, and a homemaker. She was a member of Ladies of Faith at Eastside Baptist, a faithful church worker, clerk, historian and benevolence committee member. Mrs. Mullis was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, sewing, and scrapbooking. She was preceded in death by her Mother – Annie Lee Smith Kight Loyd and her Daddy – Rev. Edward Guy Loyd, 2 Sisters – Sarah Tison and Annie Louise Taylor and 3 Brothers – James A Kight, William Clinton Kight and Robert G. “Bob” Kight.

MRS. ERMA ALTINE RAPE STONECYPHER, age 91, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, April 27, 2015 at her residence.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, April 29, at Stonecypher-Rape Cemetery, with Chaplain Mary Ida Timms and Myron Lane officiating. The family will accept all friends at the Stonecypher residence before and at the conclusion of the service.

Mrs. Stonecypher was a native of Jackson, GA, but had lived in Dodge County for numerous years. She was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother to her family. She was daughter of the late Lillie Ardell Singley Rape & Edward Franklin Rape, widow of Raleigh C. Stonecypher and was preceded in death by 2 Sisters – Frances Goodwin and Mamie Lou Stonecypher and 3 Brothers – Rufus “Bo” Rape, Junior Rape and David Rape.

BEVERLY PARKERSON MITCHELL
1968 - April 23, 2015

MRS. BEVERLY PARKERSON MITCHELL, age 46, of Ivanhoe, North Carolina, passed away April 23, 2015.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, April 30, at Orphans Cemetery, with Dr. Don Parkerson, Jr. and Rev. Bill King officiating. The family will greet friends in the Social Hall of Eastman First Baptist Church at the conclusion of the memorial service.

Beverly, a native of Eastman, Georgia, was loved by her family and friends for her compassionate heart and a life spent bringing joy to others. She was an honor graduate of Dodge County High School and excelled in basketball, tennis, and softball. She attended Mercer University on a basketball scholarship and worked extensively with Alopecia and cancer patients who had lost their hair. Her efforts were featured on the Health TV Network in Orlando, FL.

A breast cancer survivor, Beverly belonged to a cancer support group and was an inspiration in overcoming cancer to others. Her passion to help others led her to begin a ministry of collecting sea shells from North Carolina beaches and transforming them with scriptures to encourage others during trying times.

Beverly was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Don N. Parkerson and is survived by her loving husband, Gary Mitchell and son, Dare Mitchell of Ivanhoe, North Carolina; mother, Marilyn Gore Parkerson of Greensboro, Georgia; brother, Dr. Don (Julie) Parkerson Jr. of Smyrna, 2 step-children, Ashley Mitchell and John Mitchell of Wilmington, North Carolina, 2 step-grandchildren, Isaiah Smith and Alexander Jackson of Wilmington. 3 Uncles, Dr. Bartow D. (Amelia) Parkerson, Jr., Rex (Caryle) Parkerson and James R. (Elaine) Gore, Sr.; Several nieces and nephews, plus her beloved German Shepherd, Atlas, and her horse, Cisco, also survive.

MRS. ZELLA RUTH CHAMBERLIN TAYLOR, age 87, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, April 24, 2015 at Pinewood Manor Nursing Home in Hawkinsville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM Tuesday, April 28, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Mr. Reggie Sheffield and Mr. Ken Rogers officiating, with interment at Georgia Veterans Cemetery in Milledgeville at 1:00PM.

Mrs. Taylor was a native of Hartford City, Indiana, a 1945 graduate of Roll High School in Roll, Indiana, where she served as class president. She was a member of Bonaire First United Methodist Church, a former secretary, bookkeeper and receptionist and a loving wife and mother. She was daughter of the late Mary Savage Chamberlin & Don N. Chamberlin, widow of Dwight Taylor and was preceded in death by a Sister – Lois Evans and 3 Brothers – Floyd Chamberlin, Lloyd Chamberlin and Lawrence Chamberlin.

Survivors: Daughter – Marilyn A. Bennett (Mac) of Talbotton, GA; Son – Paul L. Taylor of Eastman; Sister-in-Law – Zola Hidy of Portland, IN; Several Nieces and Nephews.

MR. LEROY SPIRES, age 69, of Eastman, died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Spires was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Rhine Baptist Church, a retired farmer for the Walker farm, and enjoyed farming, fishing and camping. He was son of the late Rena C. Spires & Levi Spires and was preceded in death by a Sister – Irene Minshew and Brother Thomas Spires.

MR. WILLIAM ROBERT KELLY, age 94, of Chauncey, GA, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at his residence.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, April 17, at Chauncey City Cemetery, with Rev. Graton Helms and Mr. Wayne Graham officiating.

Mr. Kelly was a lifelong resident of Dodge County and a member of Chauncey United Methodist Church, where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent, Treasurer, and Steward. He was a Veteran of the U S Army where he was the oldest WWII Veteran living and remaining in Chauncey. Mr. Kelly was a retired farmer and cotton gin operator for R.B. Kelly & Brother, Inc., in Chauncey for numerous years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was the son of the late Ola Stewart Kelly and Ralph B. Kelly and was preceded in death by 2 Brothers – Alfred Kelly and Oris Kelly and Sister – Jane Herring.

MR. EARL FRANKLIN SANDERS, SR., age 81, of Cochran, GA, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Bryant Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Cochran.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Thursday, April 9, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Tim Brown and Rev. Royce McClelland officiating, with interment in New Union Cemetery, Eastman.

Mr. Sanders was a member of Ocmulgee Baptist Church, a 1952 graduate of Dodge County High School and a retired inventory management specialist supervisor for Robins AFB. He was born in Dodge County, moved to Centerville, GA in 1963 and returned to Dodge County in 1995 before moving to Cochran within the last couple of years. He was a family man and enjoyed reading, fishing and woodworking. Mr. Sanders was son of the late Lula Grissom Sanders & Ivy C. Sanders, Sr. and was preceded in death by 2 Sisters – Emogene Martin and Blanche S. Cadwell and Brother – Ivy Sanders, Jr.

Mr. Smith was a member of Parkerson Baptist Church, a recycling plant employee and worked part time at Subway in Unadilla. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson and watching sports. He worked for the sanitation department of the City of Eastman for over 20 years, son of the late Vera Mae Smith Howell & Thomas Eugene Howell, Sr., widower of Thelma Lee Howell and was preceded in death by a Brother – Frank Howell.

JAMES MILLWOOD
1940 - March 15, 2015

Mr. James S. Millwood, age 74, of Yulee, FL passed suddenly away on Sunday evening, March 15, 2015 at the Warner Center for Caring at Baptist Medical Center in Fernandina Beach, FL.

Born in Lafayette, AL, he was the second of four children born to the late Manley and Stella Emmaline Taylor Millwood. In 1951 his family moved to Rhine, GA where he was raised and attended school in a one room school house. As a youngster he worked in the fields of the family farms. At the age of 17 he began working in construction. He continued to work and learn various aspects of construction until moving into the field of bridge construction. In 1967 he married a childhood friend, Merry Y. Chesser. In August of 1967 the newlyweds moved to Yulee due to Mr. Millwood being assigned to a bridge project in Jacksonville. He continued to work with various bridge design and construction companies, to include; Wood Hopkins and Clare Brothers until retiring as a Supervisor with Hal Jones Construction in 2006.

Mr. Millwood enjoyed trips to the Ocmulgee River and family fish frys.

He is preceded in death by his two sisters, Betty Williamson and Dovie Crawford.

He leaves behind, his wife of 47 years, Merry Y. Millwood of Yulee, FL, children, Sylvia and Henry Evans of Eastman, GA, Malinda and David Floyd of Cochran, GA, LeDene Douberly of Yulee, FL, Vicky Avery and her husband Terry Scott of Harrah, OK, a brother, Taylor Millwood of Milan, GA, grandchildren, Joseph and Sabrina Blyler, Jessie and Eric Smith, Jackie Connor, Jeanine Williams, Jennifer Williams, Steven “SJ” Millwood, great grandchildren, J.D. Blyler, Callie Smith, Connor Smith, Kamryn Williams, Cheyenne Lutwinski, brother-in-law, Charles Williamson of Rhine, nieces, Fay Hollingsworth, Kay Lann and Brenda York as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lewis was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Lovely Grove Baptist Church and a retired seamstress for C & J Manufacturing for over 20 years. She worked at Standard Candy Company for several years and was a graduate of Dodge County High School. Mrs. Lewis was daughter of the late Lillian Leora Fordham Williams & Franklin Flornoey Williams, widow of Clarence Lewis and was preceded in death by a Son – Billy Lewis, Daughter – Kathy Hess, 2 Sisters – Verna Lee Jones and Wylene Lampkin and 1 Brother – Bennie F. Mrs. Morris was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of First Freewill Baptist Church and a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crafts and spending time with her family. She was widow of the late Jimmy J. Morris and was preceded in death by her father John Joiner and a Brother – Harvey Joiner.

MRS. MARY ETTA FULLER WILKERSON, age 80, of Chauncey, GA, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Bryant Nursing Home in Cochran.

Mrs. Wilkerson was of the holiness faith and a retired textile instructor for Sara Lee Knit Products. She worked for several years at Wahl to Wahl Grocery and 7 Day Pantry and was affectingly known as “Mrs. Mary”. She was a loving mother and grandmother to her family, daughter of the late J.C. Fuller & Alene Chapman Fuller, widow of Howard Lee Wilkerson and was preceded in death by a Sister – Joyce Flores and 2 Brothers – Marshall Fuller and Gene Fuller.

MR. BRIAN LEE ALLEN, age 42, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, March 6, 2015 at Dodge County Hospital.

Brian was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, of the Baptist Faith, a dispatcher for Dodge-Wilcox 911 and worked in Law Enforcement for over 20 years. He was a graduate of Dodge County High School, a family man, an avid reader, guitarist and musician. He was son of the late Shelba Jean Hickman Allen & Felton L. Allen.

NELL WRIGHT
1939 - March 6, 2015

MRS. WANDA NELL RUTHERFORD WRIGHT, age 76, of Chauncey, GA, died Friday, March 6, 2015 at Taylor Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, March 8, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. James Hammock officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Wright was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and a retired service manager for Wal-Mart, Inc. She enjoyed her grandchildren and spending time with her family. She was daughter of the late Gladys Mullis Rutherford-Brown & John Rutherford, widow of Windol Wright, and was preceded in death by a Daughter – Pamela Jane Wright and Brother – Billy Rutherford.

Survivors: 2 Daughters – Tina O’Connor (Jim) of Chauncey and Denise Roach (Doug) of Denver, PA; 2 Sisters – Ruth Cochran of Blackshear and Edith Jones (Billy) of Augusta; Brother – Harold Rutherford (Linda) of Eastman; 10 Grandchildren – Jonathan, Meghan, Brendan, Pam, Jennifer, Mandy, Mark, Scotty, Matthew and Michelle; 12 Great-Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews including a special Niece – Janice Cannon (Jerry) of Gresston.

MARY SAPP
1925 - March 5, 2015

MRS. MARY BROWN SAPP, age 89, of Eastman, GA, died Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Serenity Place in Dublin, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, March 10, at New Union Baptist Church, with Rev. Brad Dowdy and Rev. Tim Brown officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Sapp was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of New Union Baptist Church and the WMU, a graduate of Chauncey High School and a retired seamstress for C & J Manufacturing. She enjoyed reading and tending her flowers and was a loving mother and grandmother to her family. She was daughter of the late Winnie Walker Brown & Hobson Brown, Sr., widow of Joseph “Pete” Sapp and was preceded in death by 2 Sisters – Ann Kirkpatrick and Tommie Sue Marchant and a Brother – Hobson Brown, Jr.

Survivors: 2 Sons – Jerry Sapp (Nancy) of Hawkinsville and Jack R. Sapp (Rebecca) of Eastman; 4 Grandchildren – Joe Sapp (Terri), Brent Sapp (Jennifer), Randy Sapp (Julie) and Jennie Barfield (Matt); 11 Great-Grandchildren – Patrick Sapp, Nicolas Sapp, Daniel Sapp, Landon Sapp, Preston Brown, Cameron Brown, Ashlynn Sapp, Brody Sapp, Stella Sapp, Olivia Sapp and Madaline Barfield; Brother – Ed Brown (Carol) of Orlando, FL; Sister-in-Law – Nell Brown of Chauncey; Brother-in-Law – Frank Kirkpatrick of Roddy; Several Nieces and Nephews.

Marion "Pete" Davis Silver
1939 - September 19, 2014

Mrs. Marion Davis Silver, affectionately known as "Pete", died on Friday, September 19, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. Pete was born in RFD DeSoto on February 20, 1939. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Addison Davis, Jr. and Maidee Conley Davis Walker; and by her husband, Stanley Silver.

Pete graduated from Americus High School and Georgia Southwestern College. She was an outstanding student who loved sports and dancing. She was honored as a Superlative in her Senior class. In addition to being a cheerleader at Americus High School, Pete loved playing basketball, both in high school and college. At Georgia Southwestern, Pete was elected co-Captain of the basketball team in 1958 and 1959, and won numerous medals including, All Tournament and Sportsmanship Awards. Pete was also elected a "GSW Favorite" and Sweetheart of Kappa Sigma Phi Fraternity. In 2002, Pete was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at Georgia Southwestern State University.

Following college, Pete moved to Atlanta and worked as a Reservations Agent for Delta Air Lines; she later moved to New York City where she became a Supervisor in New York Reservations, acted as an Administrative Assistant for the Vice President for Delta and went on to become a Chief Supervisor. Pete traveled extensively to Europe, Asia and The Middle East.

Returning to Americus in 1990, Pete became very involved in community organizations.

She first became a GSW Foundation Board Member, served as Secretary of the GSW Foundation, Finance Committee, Executive Committee, Chairman of Compensation Committee and Sumter County Initiative Board Member. Pete was a member of Habitat for Humanity and worked along with former President, Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter building one of the first homes here in Americus. She was involved with raising funds for the Windsor Hotel, the Rylander Theater and for the construction of the new Americus Hospital following the tornado.

Pete was always very generous and passionate about her family, her friends and her precious pets.

Pete is survived by her brother Joseph Addison (Bubber) Davis, III and his wife, Wyndy of Leesburg; her sister Shirley Davis Mattingly and her husband, Don of Clearwater, FL, son Clifford Silver and daughter Denise Silver Leinhardt, (husband Julian) and children Carli and Samantha, of Boca Raton, Fla. She is survived by many loved nieces and nephews including Ann Marie Hatcher. She is survived by her long-time caregiver, Mary Louise Singleton of Americus who was very special to Pete.

A Memorial service will be held on Monday, September. 22, 2014, at Aldridge Funeral Services, 612 Rees Park, Americus, GA at 6:00pm.

In lieu to flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Phoebe Sumter Hospice P.O. Box 1434 Americus, Ga. 31709. Burial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus. The Hilliard Brothers, from Rhine, GA, are musicians for the funeral service.

WARREN E. SOUTHERLAND, JR.
1952 - January 10, 2012

MR. WARREN EDWARD SOUTHERLAND, JR., Age 59, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00PM Friday, January 13 from the graveside in Orphans Cemetery, with Dr. Jerry Peele and Rev. Charles Robinson officiating.

Warren was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Eastman First Baptist Church and Owner & Operator of Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home. He was a member of the Eastman Lions Club, Georgia Funeral Directors Association and Member of the Board of Directors of Citizens Bank and Trust. He was preceded in death by his Father - Warren E. Southerland, Sr.

Survivors: Wife – Joy Jones Southerland; 3 Sons – Warren E. “Wes” Southerland III, Wil C. Southerland (Brandy) & Gant W. Southerland (Susan); 3 Grandchildren – Caroline Southerland, Sydney Southerland & Briana Southerland; Mother – Pearl Belflower Southerland; Sister – Ann S. Peacock (James); Mother-in-Law – Joyce B. Jones; Sister-in-Law – Rhonda Dwozan (Freddie); Aunt – Berta Mae Belflower Wright; 6 Nieces – Shelli Goodman (Tony), Abby Peacock, Tracy Harrell, Joni Coleman (Tracy), Marci McCranie (Brian), Krista Rainey (Chip) and Several Cousins.
